To think this letter from my energy company is too good to be true?

I've just had a letter from Scottish Power. It appears they're changing my monthly direct debit from £141 a month to £68. On the face of it I'm very pleased of course but AIBU to think I'm going to be facing a HUGE bill later in the year and to wonder what they're really planning (only changed to Scottish Power last year but had terrible time with Npower and it left me scarred and cynical)

Ring up and ask if you are in surplus from your winter months? It's possible they have £300 sitting in your account. You are entitled to request that money back, and then pay them higher than £68 a month.

I've just had an email from my provider dropping my direct debit from £103 to £72 - it's because I am substantially in credit and based on current usage would be ridiculously in credit in 9 months' time if they let it go. I think companies are getting more proactive about not sitting on credit because there has been a lot of furore about it in the media. The image of the utility companies is bad at the moment, I reckon this is their way of improving it.

It was made very clear to me in the email that the amount would be reviewed again in 6 months and that it could change if, for example, we were to have a harsh winter this year. We normally turn the heating off round about now and it then stays off until mid-October, so I am not worried about huge bills. You also tend to use less electricity in the summer months because you don't have the lights on as much.

I've got £60 credit at the moment so not a huge amount. I think I'll give them a ring. This is a Victorian house and much as i love it it eats up the heat.

I think I'll just put the surplus in a savings account then hopefully if a nasty bill lands on my mat I can just pay it. If everything evens out that's next years holiday pretty much paid for
