I'm working in a contract position I have been verbally offered a perm position. my contract ends in October. I want to be a perm for this company but I can't afford to go perm now. my rental house ends in July and need to move so need the contract money to pay for deposit and rent etc . Aibu to ask them to keep me to my contract and I do 2 jobs until Oct then they make me perm?????

Well, not unreasonable, but what's the benefit for the company? Will this save them more money/time/effort than if you went permanent a.s.a.p? If yes, you'll need to be able to present a coherent argument on this. If there are no benefits for them too, I'd be loathe to raise the issue at all.

Also, if you did raise it, and they say no, what next? Would that mean you've lost out on being offered any permanent role or just that particular one?
Would you be happy to work to the end of the contract and then move on?

Sorry for all the questions, but think you need to answer the above, and possibly a few more on the same lines (for yourself, not necessarily in response to this post) before approaching them about anything.

Hope it does all work out for you though.

Secure the back-up offer of employment with the agency (make sure it pays enough to keep you going). Then tell the employer what you need to be able to accept a permanent position. Chances are that they would still be saving money vs paying your agency.

Good luck. What you are proposing is very, very normal providing that you are appropriately skilled, can do the job well, and they want to hire you. It sounds like that is the case.

FYI for my last 2 jobs I asked for an upfront bonus upon joining, since I would be forfeiting my bonus at the previous company. Both times, they company I was joining accepted and paid.
