to ask how many of you boycott Nestle?

Just noticed the stamp on the MN homepage and wondered how many of you do it.

I have for about 5 years, and even DH and DC are careful with what they choose when shopping (not been persuaded by me, they've just picked it up I guess). DH even decided to return a coffee machine bought by his DF for Christmas because it would mean buying the pods from Nestle

Nestle often make own brand coffee as well, so it's not just cereal.

TheXxed · 14/05/2014 14:09

I Boycott have done since I was 14.

pookamoo · 14/05/2014 14:11

peterparker "All Sainsbury's own brand stuff is Nestle"

Can you let me have a source for that, please?
I boycott, but I worry about own brands.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 14/05/2014 14:23

No I like milky bars too much

dawndonnaagain · 14/05/2014 14:28

"All Sainsbury's own brand stuff is Nestle"
No it isn't.

LangenFlugelHappleHoff · 14/05/2014 14:31

As far as possible, I was shocked when I learnt they have a percentage of body shop. I do miss the body butter, oh well

iK8 · 14/05/2014 14:32

I do. The food bit is easy because it is processed shite and I don't really like cereal but it is a shame about Rachel's yoghurts. Yeo Valley do well out of me instead.

The cosmetics bit was v v hard at first and now it's fine with the exception of hairspray so every 10-15 years i spend £2 on some Elnett.

I still have a few bits of l'oreal that I'm using up but none of it is so amazing I will miss it and the only thing I wish wasn't Nestle that I would buy regularly is Maybeline mascara.

Retropear · 14/05/2014 14:37

No definitely not.

BrokenToeOuch · 14/05/2014 14:38

I don't.

Rosa · 14/05/2014 14:38

I try very hard to - Smarties might be the odd slip up but buy M&Ms if possible !!!
I am in Italy and they are sneaky on where you might find them as sometimes brand names change.

Blatherskite · 14/05/2014 14:38

I have boycotted them for years but it's slipping recently as it all seems a bit pointless. It's not making any difference.

I can no longer find the energy about it to argue when the kids want fruit pastilles or Aeros, it's not like there is a descent, non nestle alternative to those either.

I try to avoid any company that tests on animals, so yes to them.

Nocomet · 14/05/2014 14:46

No, but the DDs are boycotting Nestle chocolate for being nasty tasting.

Cereal0ffender · 14/05/2014 14:55

Yes I do, they sell a load of bollocks and exploit the poorest people in the world.

I think the nespresso product has done a lot to weaken the boycott as middle class people have to justify their use of a nestle product by rubbishing the reasons for the boycott

StoneFoxMama · 14/05/2014 14:57

I actively boycott, but looking at up to date lists I wouldn't touch any of that crap with a barge pole.
Even cosmetics I'm happier using scrubs and creams etc I've made from natural products and it goes without saying this applies to the way we cook and eat. I buy very few 'brands' as I tend to buy raw ingredients and make stuff (obviously meals but also stuff like nut butters etc) so little need for packaged large corrupt corporation shit. We really don't need all the stuff they produce, they've just told us we do.

Morgause · 14/05/2014 14:57

Nearly 30 years now. I've forgotten what Kit Kats taste like.

LtEveDallas · 14/05/2014 14:58

I have done for years, but don't force DD to comply. However, saying that she does choose sweets and cereals other than Nestle generally, and knows exactly why I don't like to buy it. I will leave it up to her as she gets older to join in or not.

I do miss Minty Aeros and Matchmakers, but Marvellous Creations is my new favourite Smile

Although. I've just looked at that list and bollocks, I must have missed Purina. I'm sitting here looking at a huge box of Bonios that I buy every month for the work dogs. Mutts food is fine (Arden Grange), but she loves Bonios Sad. Oh well, it won't kill her to have own brand.

ProfessorDent · 14/05/2014 15:08

Yay! Freddie the Frog is not Nestle!

But Mister Wonka, how you have fallen... Shock

CharityCase · 14/05/2014 15:14

No, because it's pretty arbitrary. If you're boycotting Nestle you need to boycott a tonne of other multi-nationals. I bet nearly everyone is typing on a product made by a non-unionised workforce with no labour contract working a 70 hr 6 day week. Nestle's easy to boycott because it's no hardship whatsoever- just eat different chocolate/ coffee. If you want to make genuinely ethical choices all the way up the supply chain, you may find your consumer choices become somewhat more restricted.

fedupbutfine · 14/05/2014 15:16

Yes, I do. Have done for years. It's not easy, though. You do have to keep on top of it!

Sitzpinkler · 14/05/2014 15:19

I try to avoid all the big ones out of principle. Nestle, Unilever, Kellogg's, Coca Cola etc but it's really difficult sometimes.

skyeskyeskye · 14/05/2014 15:25

No. I don't boycott Nestle and don't intend to either.
