... to be annoyed at how many people I know are taking pro-Putin arguments on board regards Ukraine / Russia

I'll start off by admitting I don't know everything about what's gonig on in Ukraine, but I'm getting very frustrated with people I'm friends with who are largely liberal and left wing taking very pro-putin positons. Were it america who had decided to annex a part of Canada, or to send paramilitaries in to disrupt elections, they'd be horrified

I keep on hearing how it's the US's fault, how people in Ukraine want to part of Russia, the government in Kiev is fascist (it definitely does have neo-nazi elements, but it's not all the government).

I'm just finding it disheartening how so many people I know seem to be so open to accepting what I largely consider to be Kremlin propaganda.

Anyone else feel te same?

There is a huge amount of propaganda from both sides. All of it equally reliable.

You say it is disheartening that people accept Russian propaganda. Well, it is just as disheartening that people also openly accept the US propaganda over this as well.

To be frank, in certain parts of Ukraine, yes, there are very many people who would prefer to be a part of Russia than be part of Ukraine.

The trouble with comparing this to US actions in the past opens a whole tin of worms about US actions against smaller sovereign states. Just look at the way that they have treated countries in central and south America - what the US considers it's backyard.

So, overall maybe YAB a little U.

YABU, and just as much a victim of propaganda, which comes from the USA and pro USA media such as the bBC and Sky News.

You draw your conclusions and others draw theirs, it's not for you to critisize others for looking at things from an alternative perspective.

This is what I keep on hearing - as if there's some equivalence between Russia Today and BBC - I just don't see it.

THe point about what the US has done in the past - or even makes my point for me - right now, we're not talking about the US annexing other countries, and if they did - we would be horrified - because it's Russia, "well, we don't know the full picture, do we?"

Perhaps you could try watching Al Jazeera, they tend to be more impartial.

Have you been watching Al Jazeera? What different views are they showing?
