The phrase 'dirty beer'

DH comes home after a couple of beers with friends. Comes and says goodnight to 2.5 yr old dd, and says 'daddy's been drinking dirty beer tonight'. Just in a jokey way. But I don't think it's great to say this to young children. AIBU?

Beer makes your breath smell. So it is a bit dirty smelling. Why wouldn't you say it.

In my mind, it kind of says that alcohol is naughty but it's ok for daddy to be drinking it.

I've heard DH's family say the phrase quite a bit in the company of my nephew when he was younger too (now 5).

Perhaps I'm being a bit OTT, I'm not sure really. But then, I'm very careful about the language I use in front of DD.

I absolutely hate the phrase but I'm not sure why . Maybe it's simplifying things too much.

If he did it sounds fine to me, unless 'dirty beer' has another meaning I don't know about

Would she really understand the ins/outs of alcohol and it being good and bad at the same time?

Not, not a new wonder drug. And yes , apparently the phrase is still used! And just for normal beer (as in lager).

Well that makes sense

It would be naughty for a child to drink it, and perfectly ok for daddy to drink it.

No, she definitely doesn't understand the ins and outs of alcohol! I do drink too, but I don't attach any good/bad thing to it. As far as she's concerned, it's just a drink.

Perhaps it's me then!

DH and I have had very different upbringings - his parents are very relaxed about alcohol but mine aren't.

Don't know, just don't like the phrase... Can't help it!
