Best place to live in East Cheshire?

Tenrec · 09/05/2014 15:24

I have no idea about living in Cheshire, I've lived in London and Essex all my life, but it looks lovely. So far thinking of Knutsford, Holmes Chapel, that sort of area? Looking for a place with good secondary schools too? Thanks!

We are looking to relocate from the South East to East Cheshire & there’s so great comments on this thread, thank you.

Been up & looking a few times this year and back just yesterday from a few days away in Middlewich, Sandbach and surrounding areas.

We have friends in Middlewich and they are very concerned about the new ANSA that is due to open in November which will mean a huge recycling plant opening opposite houses and up to 1000 truck movements per day in & out of the site with no extra transport links in and out of the town. I know a lot of Middlewich ‘s residents are up in arms about it

We are concentrating on Sandbach as it’s very reasonably priced for housing compared to places like Holmes Chapel, Northwhich, etc... and does have a lovely town with the ‘oldie worldie’ feel and lots of places to eat and drink.

Loads and loads of new build estates going up and certainly no shortage of takers, need to be sure not to get caught in the leasehold trap if you go for new build as a lot of the developments are still be being sold on leasehold despite all the recent press.

Our search continues as we try to sell our house in the South East and we hope to finally relocate in 2018

@Oscarsdaddy did you make the move?

Oscarsdaddy · 21/11/2020 10:42

@miracle0812

Yes, we now live in Sandbach since summer 2018

Love it here

miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 10:48

@Oscarsdaddy ah that’s great to hear!
We are wanting to move to Cheshire from the South East! Have you felt welcomed?
Do you know much about Knutsford or Nantwich?
Thanks Smile

Oscarsdaddy · 21/11/2020 11:07

@miracle0812

Knutsford is absolutely lovely but quite expensive but there’s a lovely town with some nice shops, restaurants and bars when you can use them, they also have a lovely cinema that’s not a huge multiplex, just 3 smallish screens

Nantwich is much bigger and cheaper than Knutsford for sure, you’ve got the bigger supermarkets there, it’s our nearest large Sainsbury’s which is a lovely store

Nantwich very oldie worldly type buildings, a bit like a mini Chester

miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 11:15

@Oscarsdaddy thanks so much really appreciate it! Such a big move and lots to consider as you well know it’s not just down the road from the South East is it Grin

Oscarsdaddy · 21/11/2020 11:49

@miracle0812

We went for new build in the end as it was far easier, as you say it’s a long way to keep viewing houses as our move was 170 miles

Still plenty of new builds going up around the areas you mention, I’d look at Holmes Chapel as well if I were you but I personally would not recommend Crewe, far too busy and some not very nice areas although it’s cheap

Good luck

miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 11:52

@Oscarsdaddy exactly! We are around 230 miles away! Not being able to view schools in person due to covid isn’t great either.
Thanks really appreciate it Smile

I think Cheshire is a great place to live - all of the Peak District, North Wales, Liverpool and Manchester on your doorstep.

Only downside is the hideous M6.

My uncle lives in Sandbach, cousin in Knutsford, ex-work-colleague near Tarporley (not east Cheshire I know) and uni friend in Nantwich.

miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 13:58

Thanks @cologne4711 luckily we won’t be using the M6 much at all!
Nantwich is high on the list of places Smile

GooseWhiskers · 21/11/2020 14:27

I moved to Knutsford from London and absolutely LOVE it!

Really strong sense of community, great places to eat and drink, lots of places to walk the dog and entertain kids.

Houses aren’t that cheap in comparison to surrounding areas, but are in comparison to SE!

Moutarde · 21/11/2020 14:33

@PunkAssMoFo

Knutsford, Alderley edge or wilmslow are all lovely. Hale & altrincham have good schools. Cheadle Hulme is slightly cheaper, but nice. There are countless lovely little villages near all if these towns if you'd rather be more 'rural'.
Hale and Altrincham are both in Greater Manchester, if that makes any difference to your decision making.
miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 14:46

@GooseWhiskers haha they sure are aren’t they! Lovely to hear you’ve had a successful move from down here Smile struggling to find houses to view as by the time we get up there to view they are gone (before 2nd lockdown)

miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 14:47

Thanks @Moutarde very helpful Smile

LemmysAceCard · 21/11/2020 15:27

@miracle0812

Thanks *@cologne4711* luckily we won’t be using the M6 much at all! Nantwich is high on the list of places Smile
Nantwich is nice, it is smaller than Knutsford etc and has got good schools.
miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 20:58

@LemmysAceCard thank you! Would you say there is plenty there though like supermarkets etc? Silly question I know but I spend my life driving everywhere!

LemmysAceCard · 21/11/2020 21:34

@miracle0812 Yes, there is plenty there, a large Sainsburys, an Aldi and a Morrison’s. Lots of pubs, places to eat, independent shops etc. It’s a nice place to live and has good transport links. The schools have good reputations.

Also ignore people saying it’s too close to Crewe, yes Crewe is not as posh as Nantwich, it has a fair bit of social housing etc but it’s just like any other town, has nice bits and bad bits. It’s not like you get mobs of Crewe’s roughest roaming up to Nantwich every day to rape and pillage 🙄 I have lived in both Crewe and Nantwich and didn’t find much difference in the people.

miracle0812 · 21/11/2020 22:58

Thanks @LemmysAceCard yeah doesn’t bother me being near Crewe, Nantwich has always been top of the list and the more I look into it the more I like it (only been there once but not for long just an hour) Very helpful thanks Smile

Hi, looking for a bit of local help....We are considering a possible relocation from Surrey to Tarporley (or surrounding villages). We have four children who are all in school with our eldest due to start secondary next year. Can anyone provide any information on the local schools, villages that fall within the school catchments and life in general in Tarporley for a family. Thanks very much in advance for any help...xx
