so many examples even on this front page....

Lets keep AIBU for ranting or venting....

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2014 11:51

Do you mean they aren't using the correct topics?

LividofLondon · 09/05/2014 11:59

Some AIBU topics are simply people saying stuff like "AIBU to like eating cake with my cuppa" and IMO don't belong here. Whether you like cake with your tea is neither here nor there; you're not being unreasonable or reasonable. But then there's the AIBU threads on stuff so obvious that it doesn't need to be asked, such as AIBU to be upset after accidentally impaling myself on my garden shears. Confused To me, AIBU is for people who are not sure, not just wanting a chat.

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:03

I agree. The majority of the posts make no sense. AIBU to be proud of my daughter? For example, If you need to ask that you need to rethink the definition of unreasonable.

However I understand why people post here, you get so many replies almost instantly.

Mintyy · 09/05/2014 12:09

Yanbu to think that people post in Aibu for traffic.

I disagree with "Lets keep aibu for ranting or venting" which is not why it was started at all.

Lets rename Aibu "Petty Gripes" and encourage hq to move all non-aibu questions out to the relevant topic.

It is embarrassing that Aibu is now seen as the backbone of Mumsnet.

Mintyy · 09/05/2014 12:10

Yesterday, "Am I being unreasonable to dislike people who smoke in cars with babies"?

Ridiculous.

Mintyy · 09/05/2014 12:10

Am I being unreasonable to ask what you're wearing today?

Even more ridiculous.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 09/05/2014 12:10

shoutdn't this be in 'site stuff'

Wink
Mintyy · 09/05/2014 12:11

But, op, you don't seem to realise that most Mumsnetters don't restrict themselves to only posting in one "Forum" as you put it.

Most of us have a look at Active Conversations and join in with anything that catches our eye.

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:15

AIBU to make spag Bol with half turkey and half beef mince.

AIBU to ask for tips on weaning..

I think people are confusing the words ' is it okay' if I make spag Bol... ' is it okay' to ask for tips... Makes much more sense that way.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2014 12:19

Just use the Hide Thread function. Sorts it right out.

Is it more like 'Let's keep AIBU for subjects that can get the OP a good flaming?' Wink

HecatePropylaea · 09/05/2014 12:19

people use aibu to chat. This is true. I assume it is because this is the busiest section and it is human nature to go to where you know the crowd is.

Similar to the shoe event horizon Wink more and more people will shove more and more topics into an aibu shaped question until eventually there will be no point posting anything anywhere else except aibu because you will get no replies, so everyone will continue to twist everything into a format that fits 'aibu' in order to get a response and eventually aibu will take over the world and we will all begin each and every sentence with aibu (pron ayeboo)

Of course, this catastrophe can be avoided by MNHQ allowing me admin access to the back end of the site and I will spend many a happy hour ensuring everything is filed correctly. [saviour of mankind emoticon]

LoblollyBoy · 09/05/2014 12:37

Mintyy I'm always trying to find out why it started. Why did it start? You sound as if you know. Is it about Petty Gripes? I always imagined it as a sort of offer by the MN masses to provide a reality check.
