Posting here for traffic really?

A previous tenant (ha) keeps giving out my address when he gets into trouble, which is a lot.

Today my 8 year old opened the door to court bailiffs, who were pretty rude and aggressive until they found out that we weren't the people they were looking for.

My 8 year old is now upset because she thought they were going to take daddy away.

This isn't the first time it has happened. We have had police, warrant officers, balliffs, you name it at our door looking for this pile if shit.

It's getting more frequent. We now keep our passports and tenancy agreement near the front door because if this.

The man in question hasn't lived here for over 13 years and it's affecting our lives pretty badly.
He's doing serious crimes including assault!
I'm worried about our door being kicked in during the night.
I have 3 kids who are just as nervous as me over this, especially after this morning.
I have contacted my housing association but can I doing anything else to stop this?

Can you contact the police to flag it on their systems that this man does not live at your address?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 09/05/2014 09:05

I'd talk to the police. The non-emergency number 101 rather than 999. Giving out false information and claiming to live at your address is fraudulent behaviour causing you distress and could be affecting all kinds of records besides. Credit reports springs to mind. What else does he put your address on? He must be committing some kind of offence.

ThatBloodyWoman · 09/05/2014 09:08

You must talk to the police and tell them howit's scaring your dc.Similarly the bailiffs office, and anyone else who calls.

If you are threatened by bailiffs, tell them you will call the police, and do so if needed.

ThatBloodyWoman · 09/05/2014 09:11

The only people who can kick your door in in the night are the police, and only under certain circumstances.

If you deal with this now, robustly, there is no excuse for this happening.

Might be worth consulting CAB as well as the police. If he's using your address to get credit, ther's an organisation called cifas who can be alerted to any applications made.

Thanks for all of your replies.

The man in question is apparently a drug dealer. I hope he hasn't given our address out to anyone dodgy.

PatrickStarisabadbellend · 09/05/2014 10:44

I have lived here for 13 years and I don't want to move. It's a small village with no other ha housing available.

I waiting for my housing officer to get back to me, she's going to help me Smile

What he is doing is a criminal offense, standalone not a major one but added to everything else (the recent crimes) the police/Judge will take this VERY seriously, may even breach a bail order or conditions of remand and get him put inside. Call the police and ask for an officer to come around?

They will give you tips on dealing with callers to the house and will probably have a nice chat with your Son.

PoundingTheStreets · 09/05/2014 11:15

Yes, first contact the police. They can get this flagged up on most the systems connected to the criminal justice system so that it will be known that yours in an address this individual uses but has no real time connection to. The police may also want to pursue him for offences committed as a result of using your address fraudulently.

I'd also contact the credit rating agencies to see about getting notes on your credit files and separating his name from your address (with 13 years passing normally I'd have expected that to have happened already, but if he's constantly giving out your address, it probably won't have happened). They are pretty on the ball about address fraud these days.

Hope you're ok.
