You said babies dont eat much for weeks and weeks I was merely stating that some do.

Well obviously I'm not a moron, thatnis why I said under medical advice

AnythingNotEverything · 09/05/2014 07:50

To be fair Highway, if you weaned at 15 weeks on medical advice, your experience may not be all that helpful to the OP, who us following a more traditional route. Perhaps I should have said that MOST babies eat barely anything for weeks.

Nobody called you a moron. Someone did point out that standard advice is to never wean before 17 weeks. I don't think was a criticism aimed at you.

avocado is the BEST. Full of healthy good fat and vitamins. Easy to eat and digest. Perfect weaning food. Get a hass (the dark green knobbly skinned ones) avocado wait till it's nicely ripe and soft. De-seed and give to baby.

Babies fed from jars tend to eat more than baby led babies who eat when they want.

I found weaning DS1 stressful as he was fussy and not particularly interested in solid foods, whether finger foods, on a spoon, whatever. Now weaning DS2 and he loves it! The NHS website is a good place to start for reassurance: www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/solid-foods-weaning.aspx#close
Remember that just because someone says it's much easier to do it x way, it's not necessarily easier for you - for example I'm finding this time that cooking a baby meal and freezing it in mini-portions in an ice cube tray removes a lot of the meal planning stress which "Oh, just give them what you're having" involved.
Make sure they're sitting upright to avoid choking.
Most popular finger foods for DS 2 (6-7 months) - cucumber, steamed courgette sticks, sweet potato chips, toast and, best of all, a juicy pear that I took some of the skin off and held for him.

I read GF's weaning book & a BLW book & now do a bit of both e.g. Spoon feed sloppy stuff whilst baby mashes up more solid things with his hands & wipes it all over his face, highchair & all other surfaces!

riskit4abiskit · 09/05/2014 09:08

Ikea highchairs are easy wipe. Txmaxx do lots of cheap but lovely bibs. Poundshop for beakers, freezer pots etc.

We have that wipe clean type of tablecloth (dont know what its called) as food flies everywhere! You can get lovely patterns at Ikea dunelm mill cath kidston etc.

Many baby spoons are very long! Try and find shorter ones to make it easier when you are up to that stage.
If you buy pouches aldi do a small but nice range.

Our baby loves crumpets

beershuffle · 09/05/2014 09:12

I am going to get onto my Manager about spoons she thinks i am bonkers i am always going on about the daft spoons

OiYou · 09/05/2014 11:11

I quite like the fork knife spoo sets they sell at Poundland and asda. They are metal though but ideal for children feeding themselves.

Make pureesin batches. Put into silicon muffin forms ir ice cube trays. Freeze. Pop them into a sandwich bag in the freezer. VoilaReady made portions for when you ned them.
