The latest evidence states that these helmets do not change the shape of babies heads but do increase the incidence of complications (all parents using the helmets in this study reported adverse effects ranging from a bit of a smelly head to significant heat rashes)
www.boston.com/health/2014/05/01/study-corrective-baby-helmets-don-work/xDQ7n2q66rMJhAVEPmVbWP/story.html gives a nicely written account of this research.
Mumsnet hq, why are you still promoting companies who the latest evidence states only makes babies harder to cuddle and a little stinky, for at least 2grand a silly hat?

That's interesting- I saw an appeal for funding for this on my FB today. It wasn't available on the NHS, but I guess that's because there's no evidence it works.

Have you started a thread in Site Stuff because they check there more?

Have you by any chance been looking at sites about these helmets? The reason I ask is that sometimes the advert boxes will display stuff based on the sites you have been interested in in the past, which seems likely as you are quite knowledgable. Still, it is worth mentioning in Site Stuff as I think that they can take steps to block that particular type of advertisement. I had Wonga coming up a few months back. I hadn't been on payday loan sites, but had just been looking at the MN campaign section about government caps on payday loans, so that is probably why Confused.

You can change what advertisers show you by changing preferences about how they access your cookies.

This link should help you change settings, ( www.google.co.uk/settings/ads )- I think that Google runs the ads on MN. Of course I am not discouraging anyone from switching interest-based searches off completely as I would like Mumsnet to have as much revenue as possible, but if you would like to control what sort of ads you are seeing, then you are free to do so. There are other advert companies as far as I'm aware, but you'll have to do your own research as it is early in the morning and I have tonsillitus and a slightly grumpy baby dipping in and out of sleep :)

My god I have an ad for a 'Flat Head Syndrome' clinic on this page now haha.

I think it was more that the helmets don't make much difference to slight flatness, but for proper plagiocephally they are still recommended. The research was against using them for cosmetic reasons, but if recommended by a doctor in severe cases they are still helpful.

I get those ads too. I accept that just about anything I search on or click a link on MN will come up as an ad but have not looked at this subject. I do look at threads about it occasionally (DS has a bit of a flat head) but have never searched or clicked a link. We decided with the paediatrician to leave his to nature so I really don't want tk see these ads.

I clicked on a link to some hideous shoes in S&B recently an ad for them was popping up for weeks.
