That's interesting; what you say about not really 'liking' music in spite of having studied it and presumably having an in-depth knowledge of it probably explains why you don't like the art in your op.
And liking Escher would make sense; the logic and 'cleverness' no doubt appeal. So you can avoid the type of art that irritates you and maybe find more in the style you like (or not - it's a free country).
I came across Vik Muniz recently; this series is made from a string-like material and is a sort of sculpture/drawing. You'd never guess until you get really close that it uses the techniques of string art. Might be a logical departure from Escher?
It's a huge world and there's space for all kinds of art - just avoid the ones you find a pita and search out what you like (or don't bother < shrigs >) Grin.

I just spat out my brew... wtaf is this?

The thing about contemporary art is that there's a huge amount and some of it is better than others. As time passes, it becomes easier to see which pieces are genuinely interesting /influential /the start of a movement /ahead of their time, etc and the less good works fall by the wayside. This leads to the impression that 'old' art is good and. Modern art is crazy, which it isn't. It's as unreasonable to say 'all modern art is rubbish ' as it is to say 'everything painted in 1875 was a masterpiece '.

Sorry, should say 'crap' not 'crazy'. Although that works too :)

There is an exhibit in a gallery local to me and one piece is a table with crumbs on it.

I am completely convinced that a great many of those^^ types of arts are wetting their pants laughing at all the people trying to interpret their work and swallowing the bollock they spout the inspiration behind it.

artists not arts
