to take the potty in to wimpys?

Afternoon out to the seaside with Ds1, DS2 and me and DH. DS2 started potty training last week, was wearing pull ups as long journey and wasn't sure how he would be.

Went for some food, he asked for a wee so took him, this happened twice, both times freaked out about sitting on loo. Under his buggy was an emergency potty (should have put it in a bag), so took this out of buggy and to the loo, then returned it to buggy after cleaning it out. Buggy wouldn't fit in care so was outside.

One man very huffy about it.

Was it really that bad? Granted should have been in a carrier but DS1 never used a potty out so hadn't thought.

It's fine if you took your ds and the potty into the loo. Had you of sat ds on the potty by the tables the man would have had a point.

Oh fine in wimpys. Claridges on the other hand....

WooWooOwl · 04/05/2014 22:41

You used it in the allocated place for weeing and pooing, so I can't see a problem.

Maybe put it in a carrier bag next time so huffy people can't see it.

ILiveOnABuildsite · 04/05/2014 22:41

Sounds fine to me, I've done similar with dd last month when she still wasn't sure about big toilets. Now I carry a foldable travel toilet seat as she still isn't keen on sitting on the big loo but is okay with he special seat. Much easier as the seat fits in my medium size handbag when folded.

CoffeeTea103 · 04/05/2014 22:41

Did you mean you walked through the place with the potty?

fingersonbuzzers · 04/05/2014 22:43

So you carried a clean potty through the restaurant and back to the car?

I guess he was maybe concerned it wasn't dried properly and you might spread drops of germy water about the place?

Just put it in a bag next time.

grumpalumpgrumped · 04/05/2014 22:43

Thank you. Maybe the man was just huffy and I was projecting as i felt a little awkward! Who knows?!

May invest in a porta potty as I think they double as a toilet seat, not sure DS2 will take to a big loo as quickly as DS1.

Yep should have had a carrier, noted for next time. Did clean it, dry it and antibac wipe it but no would have known that.

Oops bad me, why can't he be like DS1 and go straight to a big loo! ThoughT I had earned my parenting stripes, guess not.

fingersonbuzzers · 04/05/2014 22:49

I wouldn't worry about it one bit. It was clean and you know it was clean so you did nothing wrong.

MollyHooper · 04/05/2014 23:07

I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Some people are just odd.

Caitlin17 · 04/05/2014 23:16

No it's not fine, whether it was in Wimpeys or The Ritz. You should have put it in a carrier bag to take it to and from the toilets. I don't care how carefully you washed it, it is completely inappropriate to carry it uncovered through where people were eating.

MollyHooper · 04/05/2014 23:23

What harm could a washed potty carried through a restaurant actually cause Caitlin?

I doubt she dangled it, dripping over peoples food.

OTT.

EverythingsDozy · 04/05/2014 23:32

Can you imagine the amount of crap that gets brought in via shoes. Almost certainly dog crap too! Like a PP said, she wasn't dangling it over tables or peoples food, the chances of particles of pee coming off the rinsed potty and landing in people's dinner is unlikely. Don't forget, there will be more pee on the door handle of the toilet than on that potty, and different peoples pee at that! Not everybody even washes their hands!!!

Caitlin17 · 04/05/2014 23:32

It's simply not nice. I don't want to see potties being carried through a restaurant. It's parents thinking they and their children's needs are more important than anyone else.

How difficult would have it been to put it in a bag? And as the OP herself said other people have no way of knowing if she cleaned it properly. Frankly I'd have assumed probably not if she thought it was ok in the first place.

sykadelic · 04/05/2014 23:40

Carrying it through the restaurant without a bag was BU, you've since agreed about that, but you were caught a little off-guard and you had to do what you had to do.

i have to admit I would be a bit Hmm Confused if I saw someone carry a potty. While you know you cleaned it, no-one else knows you did so it's a bit grotty looking.

However you totally did the right thing by taking it to the bathroom for him to use (unlike the poster who whipped it out at a clothing store between the racks!).

Caitlin17 · 04/05/2014 23:43

And if you didn't have a bag handy you could have wrapped a coat or jumper round it which shouldn't cause you a problem as you'd cleaned it.

fairylightsintheloft · 04/05/2014 23:54

Jesus Christ its a piece of moulded plastic not an offensive piece of pornographic art!! Why the hell is it grotty looking?? Also even had the OP NOT antibac'd it, unless she walked through the restaurant waving it across each table and under the noses of diners, what POSSIBLE problem could it cause? Wrapped a coat or jumper round it? WHY?? Why is a clean potty offensive? Every single person on the planet shits and pisses and knows of the need for a toilet. Its not a secret and its not like we forget about it unless we personally need to go. Oh God, I've just had a visual reminder of human anatomy, can't possibly eat my ground up cows testicle burger and deep fried potato flour fries now can I? In short OP, YANBU!

Caitlin17 · 04/05/2014 23:59

fairy but very few of us shit and piss in public view. It would have inconvenienced the OP how exactly by putting it in a bag? It was an inconsiderate thing to do.

EverythingsDozy · 05/05/2014 00:05

But nobody was peeing in public.

Aeroflotgirl · 05/05/2014 00:07

Fine if it was in the loo, not in the middle of the restaurant area

steff13 · 05/05/2014 00:17

Potty-training is so ugh, isn't it?

We take my daughter's potty if we are going to the park or someplace like that, but if we're just going shopping or to a restaurant or something, we use a potette. It sits on the big toilet, so 1. her cute little tushy is not bare on a public toilet seat and 2. she feels more comfortable. It comes with a drawstring bag to carry it in, too. I just slide it in her tote bag. Would your son use something like that?

Caitlin17 · 05/05/2014 00:19

She was carrying an object someone had peed or defecated in uncovered through a place where people were eating. That is selfish and inconsiderate. Perfectly ok to use it in the loo but a little bit of consideration for other customers would have caused the OP no difficulty whatsoever.

PrudenceH · 05/05/2014 00:21

I think the problem is that the man will not have known if it was cleaned properly and technically it could have had a poo in it

I don't think you were being unreasonable but I can see why people might be put off seeing a portable toilet around their food

Sticking it in a bag will solve the issue

SaucyJack · 05/05/2014 00:21

YANBU. Some people are just weird and like stuff to moan about including certain posters on this thread.
