"Breastfeeding in public should be criminalized and banned entirely"

Hi mums,

Posted this on the BF board yesterday and while it's got a lot of attention someone's suggested it needs the might of the mighty AIBU...

Facebook are thus far refusing to take down this hateful and incredibly hurtful page. Please go to the page (don't scroll down - it's disgusting) and report immediately. When you get the notification from FB that "We reviewed the page you reported for containing hate speech or symbols and found it doesn't violate our Community Standards.", you can leave feedback, and tell them that they are very clearly wrong. Thanks!

It's a "joke" page. Just ignore it.

FreeSpirit89 · 04/05/2014 10:13

I've had a look at it and from one I can tell its maybe a teenager, just ignore it is the best thing.

Sad thing is that it will effect many young mothers confidence about breastfeeding, how long before people start taking pictures of women breastfeeding and putting them all over social media. I hate the world we live in.

IwinIwin · 04/05/2014 10:27

I would say that this is a very clever yet not new way of attracting members, like whores and angry people to your page to get as much traffic as possible and then sell it for a larger amount. It's like the 'click like if you hate animal abuse' things.

Either this person has big issues or they are pretty devious to do it this way. Set up a very controversial page, watch the likes flood in (because a lot of people using liking to share not because they actually like), watch the link get bandied about, watch traffic soar, see people comment in derision...and you have a very popular page. At least that's how it appears when you go to sell it. Doesn't matter the content, just the traffic that matters.

They take a sensationalist subject, one bound to piss a large number of people off, then exploit it. So long as it's not illegal to fb then it won't remove it. You sell and then you start all over with another subject.

Devious.

Either that or someone has tit issues.

So don't share the link, click on the page an certainly don't comment or share through fb by linking from your own. 1) because the page is gross and 2) because they may be stting back and laughing as the page's price goes up.

PitchSlapped · 04/05/2014 13:34

I really doubt that people are liking the page because they don't know how to share. it just means theres 500 odd other sick fucks out there who agree. I reported the page, then the photo insinuating child abuse and neither are going to be removed so I sent an angry feedback

JennySense · 04/05/2014 14:13

I've started to report more and more fb pages and I am pretty shocked about what fb do think is acceptable.
Stuff like holocaust denial is seen as a "difference of opinion"
Porn is removed on about 50% of my reports
Yet all sorts of shit like this stays up.

treaclesoda · 04/05/2014 14:19

I've reported it repeatedly for every reason under the sun.

I have not liked or shared it.

Even though it is a 'joke' it is still harmful. There is a time to ignore things and a time to stand up for what is right. If only it were as simple as 'just ignore it' but it's not.

Caitlin17 · 04/05/2014 14:26

Personally I think Facebook is a ridiculous waste of time for egotists who think their mundane lives and opinions are of interest to others. That site is vile, crude, stupid and offensive for several reasons, not just the nonsense about breastfeeding. However as you've posted this it's now getting far more attention than it otherwise would.

LanaStraightLeg · 05/05/2014 08:39

I have only seen or heard of this page because a dozen different people have shared it asking people to ban it. Unless I specifically search for ban breastfeeding or similar, I would never have come across it - new mothers likewise.

Do you really think the creator would bother to update it if no one reacted?

BankWadger · 05/05/2014 08:45

To those saying this page is just a joke. Does that mean rape jokes are now acceptable? Because that is exactly what your attitude implies.

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 05/05/2014 08:53

I have reported the page and one particular image several times and left feedback for FB each time. The image (I'm sure you know the one I mean) is absolutely vile and I can't believe FB think it's ok to leave it :(

ophiotaurus · 05/05/2014 11:26

I've reported it too and they are not taking it down. I've now reported the individual photo and see if that will work. It's utterly disgusting that they won't take it down.

ophiotaurus · 05/05/2014 11:49

They've refused again. Awful.

Octopirate · 05/05/2014 11:55

I have reported but facebook has come back saying it has not been removed Angry
I have also reported the image of Ian Watkins and the baby so at least that could be removed, facebook has come back saying that has not been removed! How bad does something need to be before it is removed!?

PrincessBabyCat · 05/05/2014 12:03

LOL. It's an obvious troll/joke page. Don't let it rile you.

It's not breaking rules and guidelines, and facebook won't take a page down on the basis that people were morally outraged.

You can tell they're enjoying the attention and giggling about it behind a computer screen, why keep giving them what they want?

Joysmum · 05/05/2014 12:09

Troll page set up to get reactions because that persons life is so inadequate in reality. No worth my time and energy.

Octopirate · 05/05/2014 12:15

I can see what you mean about the page as a whole princess, however some of the content on the page surely breaks facebook guidelines. I would say in particular the image of Ian Watkins and the baby is sexual in nature and I would go as far as saying it is sexual exploitation of the child in the image.

Sallyingforth · 05/05/2014 12:15

I will GUARANTEE that whoever posted that rubbish is browsing MN and similar sites right now to enjoy the reactions.

Trolls are best ignored, wherever they appear.

manicinsomniac · 05/05/2014 12:24

This thread will probably get shut down by MNHQ

I posted extracts from a vile facebook group a couple of weeks ago (didn't even link to the page itself) and it was deleted within the hour for being offensive.

BankWadger · 05/05/2014 13:02

Excellent. I'm going to start a 'joke' thread about what twats Brits are for calling jandals flip flops, being obsessed with the weather and all having bad teeth.

It will be okay if I offend anyone though because it will be 'just' a 'joke'. And as such I can reasonably expect MNHQ to leave my thread standing as it is obviously just a joke, no matter how offence I make my digs.

Hmm
BankWadger · 05/05/2014 13:04

offensive

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 05/05/2014 13:11

I don't think this will get deleted, I started one linking the petition they actually moved that into the right category for me, and this is the second thread on here about this same subject.

Facebook however need to look at what they think is suitable material. I can't believe there is a mind out there sick enough to create the image with IW and the baby Angry

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 05/05/2014 13:13

A few points...

  1. Any time i've reported a rape 'joke' before, it has been deleted.
  2. breastfeeding pictures get deleted.
  3. therefore it would not be a huge leap to suggest fb don't view this as 'any old rape joke', but as it is derisive to breastfeeding... perhaps they agree with the premise behind it?!

???!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 05/05/2014 13:38

I reported and in the feedback put

Facebook are usually great at removing rape "jokes" but apparently not when connected with breastfeeding. Seems to me, when added to the fact that you are happy to delete breastfeeding pictures, you agree with the lowlife who created this page?
Hate speech is illegal. To call breastfeeding mothers "mouth rapists" manages to both incite hate speech against mothers AND minimise rape.
Congratulations. I can only imagine you are over the moon with all the clicks this page is getting.

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 05/05/2014 13:40

Well said Beyond! Hopefully someone will remove this page soon!

Caitlin17 · 05/05/2014 15:01

You know you might have got more of a response from Facebook if you'd focused on the indisputably pornographic content involving Watkins. The bf bit is a side issue (and if I'm honest I can't get het up about) and given it's not ever going to be criminalised is just stupid and juvenile to all points north of stupidity and juvenility.
