Job interview asked me for card details?!

Is this normal? I have a interview with Thomson as a Sales Rep on Tuesday and she told me to bring my PP/Driving Licence, my NI Number and my bank card?

Any reason why I've never had this before (card bit I have been to interviews lol)

That means your bank account number, not your card details.

CouldntGiveAMonkeysToss · 04/05/2014 06:13

They didn't ask for your card details. Bank details means account number and sort code and it's so they can pay you usually. Does seem a bit early at interview stage but maybe they are going to offer you a job or maybe it's for a credit check.

AnythingNotEverything · 04/05/2014 06:18

There's no risk in giving out your bank details. It's the same info that's on a cheque - nothing we keep secret Smile

The worst someone could do is give some money into your account.

DotToDott · 04/05/2014 06:26

I've been asked to show my bank card in a couple of clubs before as a cross reference with my id- could it be for that reason?

Loopyster · 04/05/2014 06:40

Always been asked this for teaching jobs, standard IME

Thomson has a high turnover of staff ( lots of seasonal ) you would be amazed at the amount of people who are unable to provide bank details, sort code etc so at initial interview they check ID, take bank details so if you get the job they have the info on file.

AbiAbi · 04/05/2014 06:50

I always ask interviewees to bring bank details, so that if they're successful I can ask them to compete a payroll form and get them on the HR and payroll system ASAP.

ClubName · 04/05/2014 07:07

They don't need bank details to do a credit check - only name, address and any previous addresses in last 3 years.

It will be for payroll. They have to get ID now and easier and quicker to get it all out of the way on one go. It's a good sign - it means the HR people are efficient Grin

Sherborne · 04/05/2014 07:08

Err.. Why not just ask them?

ClubName · 04/05/2014 07:10

LOL Sherborne. Maybe because OP is thinking about it at 7am on a Sunday morning! Most posts on here are about something that could be sorted out another way but we ask our friends Smile

EnglishGirlApproximately · 04/05/2014 07:13

Its just for payroll then. If they want to offer you the job they like to get things done very quickly.

Good luck, hope you get it :)

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 04/05/2014 10:10

Sher

Because they weren't open at 9 last night.

It's isn't unusual to be asked for bank details at interview. It ticks boxes for HR - they have fully checked that you are employable and, should you be successful they would be able to pay you in the normal manner.

Sometimes people who have been bankrupt, are recent/illegal immigrants don't have a working bank account and that can cause major headaches for a new employer. So they check before they hire you. That way they can get started on sorting it out, finding an alternative payment option the day you start employment.

It is one of the reasons that benefits now get paid into a bank account. Not have one was one of the things that formed a barrier to work, credit etc for the long term unemployed.
