To think turning 40 has a lot going for it?

So big 4-0 approaching and am feeling pretty optimistic about the next 10 years. I felt similarly turning 30 and in fact got to work within a week of my birthday - starting off with binning my boyfriend of 5 years as the relationship had gone stale but we were too comfortable to address it.

10 years on, am married with kids, own a nice house, have a good job and while of course nothing is perfect - it's good.

I have finished my family ( had twins last year) and have another stone to lose before back to my fighting weight so physically have taken abit of a knocking the last few years but willing to work on it.

And yet, I'm also abit scared and worried I'm old now?

Give me your positives on turning fabulous 40 please!

I hated 30. 40 (March) was outstanding. I'm finally comfortable in my own, imperfect skin.

I've had the best ever sex, my head is in sync with my physical self.

I've come to terms with my Earth Mother/sexpot/party animal/homebody self. Grin

good to hear from you all!

Fifi - maybe choose a new hobby or set yourself a challenge - is there anything you have always wanted to do? I bet the MNers would be able to suggest how to go about it in an unconventional way.

I am perhaps mourning a little bit that sense of everything is still possible that you have when you are properly young - if that makes sense? I don't think Im finished yet but there are some things that won't happen now and there are fewer 'firsts' and today I was flipping through a magazine and realised Ive gotten distant from yoof culture and I'd not noticed somehow that Ive got wrinkles round my eyes….im ok but a bit surprised how its crept up on me!

for some of my friends our 40s have started badly so I'm looking around abit anxiously as I see people struggling to possibly having to let certain dreams go (kids etc) and wonder will the next 40 years just whizz by now??

I like the idea of setting goals actually - I'm going to have a think...

I will be 49 later this year. My 40s have been mostly been great. Will be very sorry to say goodbye to them next year....

Meanwhile, age is just a number. You are as young as you feel. I feel I'm still just 40!

I turned 40 last year AND I FUCKING HATE IT.
Hairs on chin.....yep I wax mine off.
Hard to lose weight.....its taken me since last August to lose 2 stone.

Sex drive is higher but there is nowhere for it to go.

Being in my 40s is SHIT.

Had a great 30s, 40s is shit so far and nearly half way through. I'm hoping I'm turning the corner but greyish, thickening waistline, still have young children, can't find a job probably as I'm too old, sigh....
