What thread explains what MN is

I don't have children but MN has been there for me. I want my contemporaries to understand that this is more than kids and biscuits.

What threads have meant the most to you? Which discussions have made you feel proudest to be here?

Any one of the escape threads on relationships. Where someone posts asking for perspective on something that leads them to realise that they are being horribly abused, then visibly gains strength and gets themselves (and their children) free.

And stuff like the mnet tips, power of the hive mind .

lessonsintightropes · 03/05/2014 00:02

Woolly hugs does it for me. Or the TTC buses. And just how much love and support Zombie has had during her journey with cancer.

DocDaneeka · 03/05/2014 00:03

Oh yeas, anything with Zombie :)

The SN boards are like family. And yes, that means when we fall out we really fall out. But I think that board saved my life. Or at least completely changed how I parent and what I expect for DS in 'the system'.

Undertone · 03/05/2014 00:40

That's really interesting. I think this place is bigger than people realise.

OP posts:
Armadale · 03/05/2014 00:42

Yes I agree it is bigger.
For me it is the help and support on the miscarriage boards

Allalonenow · 03/05/2014 01:11

I think the vast spread and range of information and knowledge available here, all so freely and generously given, is what makes MN so very special.

I remember one of the first threads I read was requesting information about the posible identity of "seed cases" found on a child's jumper. Within minutes of the first post these had been identified as tape worm segments, serious advice given as to immediate and future action, preventative measures suggested, a frantic mother soothed.

Add to that the humour and the fun of threads like Yoni and the current 1985 school lunch box thread, and it's hard to beat really.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 03/05/2014 01:16

Zombie's, and a few that were about Expat and her daughter. So very sad but showed the good and supportive side of Mumsnet posters.

RonaldMcDonald · 03/05/2014 01:34

The occasional hugely bright and involved debate involving anything at all at anytime
Slotted in between tips on how to perform sex acts and make perfect Victoria Sponges

The thread in which a woman posted in desperation after coming home to find her husband had left her entirely without warning and had cleared out their entire marital home down to his favourite condiments. Won't paraphrase the whole story here, save to say both she and his mistress gave birth within months of each other and it seems she got a huge amount of support from MN. She still posts.

HypodeemicNerdle · 03/05/2014 08:33

There's a poster in the life limiting illnesses board who's sharing her journey with leukaemia. So much love and support is being shown to her, truly heartwarming.
And Zombie of course.
And I'm not a sporner but the threads are often hilarious!

DebbieOfMaddox · 03/05/2014 08:41

EarthMotherImNot's long thread about fostering a drug-dependant baby.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/05/2014 08:42

Anything where vulvas are discussed.

lessonsintightropes · 03/05/2014 09:51

On a lighter note, mooncups, pombears, parking, sporners... All Mumsnet reminders.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 03/05/2014 09:57

Any thread where huge amount of specialist expertise suddenly appears out of the woodwork. The occasional maths geeks threads. The Game of Thrones/Downton/Strictly/Georgette Heyer threads. The Song Lyrics as AIBU threads.
