To not want to have PIL to stay.

It's Bank Holiday weekend, looks like it's going to be sunny, we are knackered and had planned a quiet weekend around home-bit of gardening, a walk on the beach, wander round village market, just lazing around together. Now DH has announced he spoke to PIL today and they are coming up in the morning and staying until Tuesday morning. Just want to spend some time with us. He doesn't mind- very close to his parents. I am pissed off beyond belief. They are lovely but I am just tired and want a break, not to be making up beds, cooking meals, not having any privacy, having to entertain them. I just wanted a quiet, relaxing weekend with no pressure. I wouldn't mind betting they half- suggested it and he just said fine without even thinking about it. I am so tired I could cry. AIBU?

ok then. bide your time op and announce in a month or so that. you have arranged to do.... insert thing he is not keen on here...

did you tell him it is not april the fucking first and to grow up?

ThingsThatShine · 02/05/2014 23:25

Really weird to say that as a joke. I don't get it!

LuluJakey1 · 02/05/2014 23:38

No littlegreen I think it was genuinely one of his not very well thought through jokey comments ie DH thinks 'I know Lulu is really tired and looking forward to a nice quiet weekend - I'll just wind her up by pretending my DPs are coming up and and then we'll have a good laugh at the joke' NOT!
He is clearly feeling very guilty.
DH 'Do you want me to run you a bath?'
Me ' No thank you'
DH ' Why don't we go to bed then and just have a nice cuddle?'
Me ' I am just unclenching my jaw and trying to stop myself grinding my teeth. It might be a while before I am relaxed enough to go to bed.'
DH ' I could give you a shoulder rub'
Me ' I think not'
DH 'I might go up then......don't suppose if I put my lucky pants on, you might be overcome by passion in a bit' Tried winning smile again.
Me ' Not very likely'
DH ' I do love you Lu. Sorry if I pissed you off love'.
Me ' I know you do. I know you are' - said with generous, forgiving but tolerant smile
DH [grins] I'll make it up to you tomorrow.

Hahahaha at his lucky kegs, I need you to describe them (if they exist and aren't just a figure of speech) Grin

Andrewofgg · 02/05/2014 23:48

Barring cases of emergency DW and I have never, ever issued - an invitation to anything without agreeing first. Nor does either of us accept an invitation for both. YANBU.

MyLatest · 02/05/2014 23:48

Yes, way to talk yourself out of a shag MrLulu, lucky pants or no lucky pants! Lesson learned we hope Wink

LuluJakey1 · 02/05/2014 23:51

I said almost those exact words BlackeyedSusan
ThingsThat Shine That's because, fortunately for you, you do not live inside DH's brain. I think it was a genuine attempt at a silly comment that he thought I would react to and he would then have said he was winding me up and Oh How We Would Have Larfed! I didn't react, I was quietly steaming and took myself off into the sitting room to stop myself losing my temper and I posted an AIBU on here. He followed me a few minutes later and saw me on my ipad and thought I was unperturbed and just reading. I then told him everyone on Mumsnet thought he was a cock for what he had done and he realised what had happened. He was quite shocked I think by how seriously I had taken him. He thought I would guess it was a wind up.

AgentZigzag His lucky pants do not exist other than in his mind. He will, in attempts to amuse me, sometimes dig out a pair of his oldest, most washed out, baggy pants with holes in them and put them on and dance round the bedroom- sometimes with his Bradford City woolly hat on as well, singing 'I'm too sexy for my' ( The Right Said Fred song) It is very funny but not at all erotic!

AgentZigzag · 03/05/2014 00:05

I was thinking more along the lines of this.

I'm disappointed.

Woolly hat eh?

Nowt as funny as folk Grin

musicalendorphins2 · 03/05/2014 05:30

My mom did similar, called me up and told me she and my aunt would be there in a few minutes for tea, my aunt wanted to see my apt. I let out a blood curdling scream and hung the phone up and went on a cleaning rampage. My mother called back in a few minutes laughing, it was April 1st!

Pretty good one I thought!

PrincessBabyCat · 03/05/2014 06:03

LOL, what a dork.

I've pulled similar things on my husband, it really is quite fun to get him riled sometimes. Got him in the car sprung it on him we were doing something really lame with my mom while secretly driving him somewhere fun for his birthday. Kept leading him on, asking for directions to the lame place and deliberately ignoring them, pretending to be lost and "confused". Got to the event, he was so pissed off by the time we got there he wouldn't even talk to me. Until he realized it was a birthday joke. Grin

They won't be around forever you know. It's so sad how no one appreciates that. They are your dh's parents and it's only natural they all want to spend time together.
Imagine when your dc's grow up and get married and their partners are as ungrateful as you are being and don't want you to visit. Not so nice on the other side is it.

Tvseemstobemyhobby · 03/05/2014 08:51

Aargh came back to this this morning and now realise despite RTFT my slow phone typing ensured I missed the "it's a joke" thread. 4 minutes is all it took to miss that.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 03/05/2014 09:01

Oh c'mon Red, they saw them two weeks ago.
Lots of things won't be around forever.

Lilaclily · 03/05/2014 09:04

I don't think it was a joke
I think he regretted it & secretly phoned them & cancelled

littlegreengloworm · 03/05/2014 09:06

Not being around forever is guilt tripping. It also doesn't warrant the fact that op in in an adult relationship of her own. Also mnetting shouldn't require three full days and nights.

littlegreengloworm · 03/05/2014 09:07

Meeting up not mnetting

LuluJakey1 · 03/05/2014 09:15

Please read updates- it was a 'joke' that went a bit wrong.
He is at this very moment making tea and toast downstairs so I can have breakfast in bed. Has promised to make it up to me all day. I am making my list. He has already managed a couple of the things on it [grins]

Hurrah. A ODFOD moment.

Whocansay · 03/05/2014 09:55

I hope you're posting from your bed, OP?

Enjoy your PIL-free weekend!

(And make your DH work HARD. Preferably in elephant pants.)

DizzyKipper · 03/05/2014 10:02

Just going from the heading I'd say YANBU Wink

AnandaTimeIn · 03/05/2014 10:20

He foots the bill of course.... Grin

LuluJakey1 · 03/05/2014 20:44

Quick update if anyone is here. Have had lovely lazy day. Lie in, DTD, breakfast in bed, walked up to village, wandered round market, walked on beach, had lunch out, needed bit of a lie down when we got home. DH has been on his best.
Thanks for making me feel better last night when I was pissed off- before I knew about his 'joke'. Smile
