AIBU?

To wonder what heroin makes you feel like...?

As it's so risky (I presume so anyway), and physically addictive, and while some people seem to be able to use it regularly but hold it together while others unravel I wonder what it's a) appeal is and b) what you feel like on it....?
Anyone have first hand experience?

what was the ketamine like? that falls under the same "being sick / nodding out" category to me and it doesn't look very pretty from the outside. Meth terrifies me - all that meth dentistry (there was a piece in Vice a while back about Meth and a London Ambulance crew member commented on it, talking about being called to one of the Vauxhall clubs where someone had had a heart attack on the dance floor, and his description of what was going on in a room of meth heads. It made Jessie's Breaking Bad parties look like afternoon tea with the vicar. Very dark; very disturbing)

Last time I had intravenous (as opposed to the not terribly effective oramorph), it hit me like a shockwave/shiver. Not pleasent at all. But dealt with the appendix pain. Tho not useful when they poked my appendix afterwards and said "oh so you are not in pain then, I thought you were in lots of pain". Seriously... Just had a massive dose of morphine and they ask me can I feel pain (it hurt a tiny bit but nothing like it had). Didn't give me a happy feeling tho. No emotional release. Not sure what could to be honest.

Taking away teh misery doesn't equal happiness unfortunately my brother said it was just a numbed out nothingness but physically very comforting

springbreak it was years ago (I thought it was something else at the time) and within a few minutes I was wanting to slump on the floor twitching. Like a very intense high, your limbs go floppy but you want to thrash about at the same time, and I also felt slightly sick.

Not an experience i was in a rush to repeat. Ugh

*"I've always wondered this because I wonder what the addicts think when they want that hit. I heard the first hit is like a million orgasms (or just - an amazing feeling-) and they try to get those again, and they can never get that feeling back."

This is what I've heard that smoking crack cocaine/free-basing feels like but not heroin.

I'm on mega high doses of Codeine and Tramadol (and other stuff) atm. It is making me feel bloody terrible. I have horrifically vivid dreams. It's nasty stuff imo, nothing nice about it at all!

I had morphine after my c section. I was on a ward without my baby ( prem ) so I guess they thought it was safe. I was as high as a kite and singing although it took me a while to work out it was me singing .. very odd sensation .. Co codomol makes me trip !!

Cocodomol makes me feel sick, as does codeine.

I don't like to admit this but I've taken it before. I smoked it two times as a teen, about 15 years ago and I've never felt tempted to take it again (I've grown up rather a large amount since).

It made me feel sick as a dog at first...and then afterwards I just felt numb....like nothing really mattered and I could just float along not really worrying or caring about anything...

I can totally see how people who are trying to escape their own minds and problems can become addicted to it. As a pain-killer (both mental and physical) it's a fucking amazing drug.

I believe heroine is basically street morphine.

No, heroin is a more chemically refined version of morphine, and as an earlier poster said, if you've had diamorphine, you've had heroin.

The thing about it is, heroin is the best pain killer of all. People who take heroin have some kind of pain they're trying to get away from. Painkillers kill pain. The reddit article cited earlier is excellent.

Ooh, thanks for a RL account!

That explains a lot, that and the link posted. Especially in the case of, dare I say it, PG (massive assumptions being made.) I used to think you'd be quite slumped and useless on it rather than it being possible to function normally (clearly I wasn't very clued up!) Like being ridiculously stoned and euphoric at the same time perhaps

I initially thought that I was going to regret asking such a ridiculous question considering this is MN but now feel as if this has actually been very enlightening!

I had a friend who was a teenage heroin addict years and years ago. I asked her the same question, and she said it's like being hit over the head with a hammer. You don't care about anything when you're on it.

Nancery · 02/05/2014 14:57

I'm not convinced that feeling hit over the head by a hammer could be that appealing myself...

Me neither, but I guess the slang term 'smackhead' links in with it, Nancery.

I've had morphine. Just made me feel completely content, happy and relaxed. Nothing seemed to be a problem at all. Lasted the whole night. Couldn't sleep so just a good few hours of feeling that way.

I've always been curious ,but could never try it as i have a very addictive nature and wouldn't be able to try it just the once (unfortunately )

I had a general anesthetic once and someone later told me that taking heroin is similar to that point when they make you count and you start to feel sleepy and I have to amit I felt very lovely and then obviously you are off with the fairies.

It's like that apparently, I'm no chemist but I think anesthetic and heroin are very similar.
