To put my baby in a red coat when...

She has a purple pram?

Because a random old lady who wanted to look in the pram and see the baby (as they do) told me off for exactly that! Are the fashion police going to arrest me? Will my daughter be scarred for life?

P.s obviously this is a light-hearted thread but the lady was genuinely disgusted in me and made a point of telling me so. Thought she was going to phone childline on my baby's behalf.

Not the same thing, I know, but certainly a mumsy fashion crime. I have accidentally (I swear!) bought DD and I almost matching (as in same colour or print) coats - twice. I love the coats (and bought them at totally different times without really thinking about what the other one of us already had) but I hate knowing that people will think I have done it on purpose.

dd had a black pram - i thought it was unisex - apparently not; 'why have you put her in a boys pram?!' more than once
and twin's red pushchair was also a no no as i had two boys.

Really??? some people worry about odd stuff.

we don't iron anything except shirts and suits. and get this... we don't iron dsds uniform :O she comes home covered in creases so why bother?!

I am also U apparently as I dress DS is in jeggings and stretchy pants from Uniqlo rather than stiff unstretchy cargo pants. Comfortable on 18 month boys old apparently is the same as dressing them in a tutu and a floral cardigan.

People are seriously weird

According to my friend's (German) mother it is totally unreasonable to dress any baby, regardless of sex, in any colour at all until they can sit up.
Have you made this terrible error too?

Your child is going to be scarred for life. You do know that, don't you?

DD was in a red coat and yellow dungarees today. I have an orange rain jacket. We are like a bag of skittles

I was told off by a middle aged woman for having her in a green hat when she was tiny. A green hat! for a girl!!!!!

When my dc were babies they always had lovely colour co.ordinating outfits even down to the socks. If someone gave them an outfit and I didn't have socks the right colour, I would buy some. I ironed everything too. Even vests (not socks though)

They didn't match the pram though :(
well, actually, ds1 had a grey and turquoise buggy, and a did wear turquoise sometimes. And ds2s pram was grey and red, and he did wear red.

As an aside. Mum and I were talking about that poem, I said it was red and purple, she insisted it was just about red!

White - or maybe cream at a pinch. Ecru would be pushing it...

Mind you, this was the same lady who sent her son to school in lederhosen. Which might be fine in Germany, but tends to raise a few eyebrows in Scotland. My friend's dirndl was quit conservative by contrast.
Her mum was lovely, but slightly eccentric!

I got asked how old "he" was five times in one day. She was wearing a Batman onesie, admittedly, but underneath a pink cardigan, with a pink cat hat, pink scratch mitts and a pink blanket. When I pointed this out, the person looked quite pissed off and said "But she's dressed as Batman"

I need a pink pram or to stop dressing DD as Batman

I knew a wee girl with a batman hoodie that had a cape attached to the sleeves. She wore it well. I was very jealous...

My niece is very, very ginger. She is ALWAYS dressed in pink. I have considered alerting social services. It looks awful. Poor child.

I always seemed to attract old ladies who felt a compulsion to tell me babies should be dressed in white.

DD did have a white snowsuit when she was tiny, and this woman spent ages telling me how lovely it was to see a baby dressed 'properly' in white, oh its wonderful, oh how lovely repeat ad nauseum.

Oh how I laughed when I got home and unzipp snowsuit to reveal the most glorious, bold, patterned outfit (which was representative of all her clothes bar the white snowsuit). I don't think the old lady would have been impressed though!

I am beyond furious at what you have done...you are evil!

Side note, 9 year old dts, I put the ironing board up lady week, stayed there after I used it, 1 DT walked on with a drink looked at said ironing board, and asked can I put my drink on your...um...surf board thing Mum... Yes that is how often I iron, he didn't even know what it was ...

I have cuffed myself after calling the police they are on their way round now... Bye

A purple pram, I need to see it before commenting (I love prams)

I was told off for having ds4 in a red pram as red is for girls apparently . I've just bought him one with marvel comic customs

Loads of colours to choose from when dressing him now

red is the best colour ever and it's for everyone.
and it is traditionally/historically the strongest, most masculine colour there is.

My DD Appleblossom Sunflower Redwoodtree Skyee would never be caught in an uncoordinated pram/coat combo. She may be just ten weeks, but that type of humiliation would be scarring to someone of such a tender age. Poor parenting, I'm shocked.
