Neighbour's dog walker isn't walking the dogs [shock]

There's a dog walker who comes and takes next door's dogs every morning.

When I drive around the corner to take dd to school he's parked on the road having a snooze with the dogs in the back of the van! I've caught him doing it loads of times.

The other day I realised he also takes dogs from another house up the road. This time I walked past him putting dogs in the van. Then I walked back from taking DS to nursery and he's parked around the corner again just sitting reading the newspaper. I gave him evils and he looked a bit sheepish. I could hear the dogs barking in the back.

Should I spy on him a bit more before telling the neighbours?

This is terrible, I sometimes struggle to find the time to walk my dog but always always do as they need exercise and them not getting the exercise the owners are paying for is completely unacceptable :(....

I like the note idea. I think I'll pop one into their letterboxes tomorrow.

I would want to know. An old colleague of mine is a dog walker. Even though I used to know her v well, I still randomly pop home at lunchtime and often don't tell her when I'm finishing early or starting late, so I know she's consistent. Previous dog walker took the piss and for £10 an hour, it's not on!

MammaTJ · 29/04/2014 22:46

I have a lovely lady who really does walk my dog, and I don't pay her.

She would like a dog, but doesn't want to commitment, so she borrows mine. Grin

I actually think being paid to do something, then not actually doing it is fraud or theft.

DaleyBum · 29/04/2014 22:47

Marking place!

ExitPursuedByABear · 29/04/2014 22:47

Please do. Poor pooches.

Sparklingbrook · 29/04/2014 22:48

Sad poor dogs.

Our local dog walker is always at the local park running about with loads of dogs. Smile

KeatsiePie · 29/04/2014 22:48

Oh, I'm so glad.

You might suggest to them to give the company a bad review on Yelp or whatever other site is popular where you are. Reviews are huge for choosing a dog walker as that's really all you have to go on. I would be really grateful to see a review that said "don't use this place, they left my dog locked in the van instead of walking her."

BigRedBall · 29/04/2014 22:50

That's the thing Sparklingbrook, he's parked outside a park around the corner and is always just sat there. I've never seen him in the park with dogs.

Sad It's just bizarre isn't it-very blatant. Sad

Armadale · 29/04/2014 22:58

OP this thread on a local London Forum is the experience of a dog owner finding this out for themselves & it is pretty clear they did really want to know.

FWIW I think it is cruel- an owner will often think the dog has had a really good walk that day and will not give them much other exercise, when the poor dog has been shut in all day.

ColdTeaAgain · 29/04/2014 23:00

He is committing fraud then.

hmc · 29/04/2014 23:07

My dog walker has a facebook page and posts photos of the dogs being walked every day.

Shocking that this man does this Sad

musicalendorphins2 · 29/04/2014 23:40

You must let them know. If you do use a note, make sure nobody else can take the note, the dog walker will have access to inside the house. He needs to be fired immediately.
Personally, I would go knock and tell them. Those poor dogs. If I had a dog, I'd be furious my dog was inside all day with no exercise.

KeatsiePie · 29/04/2014 23:47

Oh good point musical.

Gennz · 30/04/2014 00:28

Tell them! This makes me so angry. DH & I both work fulltime and our dog goes to doggy daycare 2 days a week, I would be gutted & furious if I found out they had been locking him in a van!!!

RedRoom · 30/04/2014 13:35

I would be so grateful if you alerted me to this. They care for their dogs and are going to the trouble and expense of paying for someone to walk them. The dog walker is disgusting and a thief- to take payment for something and not do it. I hope when you tip them off they catch him red handed.

SelectAUserName · 30/04/2014 13:40

I don't use a dogwalker but if I ever had to, this would make me incandescent with rage. Not only is he taking money under false pretences but he has blatant disregard for the dogs' welfare. Exercise is a fundamental need, and to lock them in an enclosed space with other dogs is risking both fights there and then and potentially long-term serious psychological / behavioural problems (such as fear-aggression) which the poor owner will be left to deal with without any understanding of why or how it has arisen.

Please OP, for the sake of both the dogs and their owners, mention this to your neighbours.

aurynne · 01/05/2014 06:46

He is also a lazy bastard, surely it takes the same amount of time to sit and read in the van than to give the poor dogs an actual walk!

WaitMonkey · 01/05/2014 07:10

Those poor Envy dogs. Horrible man. Sad

WaitMonkey · 01/05/2014 07:10

Sorry random Envy ..

Have you told them?

HannerHet · 01/05/2014 09:27

Poor dogs, have you told them yet?
