AIBU to think the office window should be open on a roasting day?

It's really hot in here; all the windows are open, everyone who has a fan has it on, the internal doors are propped open and so is the emergency exit. The sun is streaming in; I've a fan pointed at my face but I can still feel my cheeks burning with the heat.

A colleague just came over and closed the window at my desk. I said 'But X, it's roasting in here' and she said 'Yes, I know, but my back is getting stiff so I need it closed'.

The last really hot day we had, she closed my window because it was giving her a sore ear.

She never closes other people's windows.

Is this some sort of passive aggressive muppetry or is the draft from my window on a calm, sunny and hot day really such a danger to her health that I have to sit here sweating?

She is feeling a draught at her desk. You could really do with feeling a draught to cool you down. Why don't you swap desks?

I swear I've read this on here before. Right down to the fans. Obviously a common problem.

Next time she closes your window, just stand up and open it again. I would. Say "sorry, Colleague, the heat in here is making me feel rather unwell. Perhaps you could put a cardigan on if you're feeling cold"

Very rude to close your window without asking if you mind.Shock

YANBU!

We have this problem, I don't sit next to a window but am right where the air flow hits. Infact it swishes around my legs. I have a cardie and scarf for my legs but it still gets me up the trouser leg.

YANBU. I love a bit of fresh air in the office on a hot day. Maybe compromise and have the window open for an hour and then you can shut it, the reopen after about an hour ect.

It's not 'her' window, it's a window in a room shared by a number of people. That's a common problem in shared offices though. The people who sit beside the windows forget that everyone is equally affected when the window is open. It's just as rude to stand up and open a window without asking if anyone minds, as to walk over and close the window without saying anything. No one 'owns' the window.

SarcyMare · 30/04/2014 10:11

vintageJazz but as has been shown here people believe they DO own the window and can do just as they like with it.

im sat here with a heater on and there's been clients complaining about how hot it is, but I feel the cold and my hands will go blue, so i'll keep my windows shut and my heater on.

Summerbreezing · 02/05/2014 13:10

I wish more people would remember that Vintage. I really feel the cold and there is nothing more annoying that people who sit by the window just standing up and flinging it wide open on cold days because they 'feel like some fresh air' without so much as a by your leave.
On really hot summer days, fair enough. But the rest of the time you should check if anyone minds, and offer to close it again after a while - not wait until someone asks and then look a bit put out, as I have seen people do. Very rude and selfish.
