AIBU to expect employers not to advertise a job having "generous annual leave entitlement" ....

when in fact, the annual leave entitlement is the minimum required by law. 28 days.

Surely if they were being generous they'd offer more.

Annoys me!

Well there you go, he actually gets 33 days a year, which is 5 days more than the statutory requirement.

I work in the Care Sector and BHs are definitely recognised where I work. They have to be covered but you get a day of in lieu,

PrincessBabyCat · 29/04/2014 20:08

Most Americans only get 12 days annual leave.

Sometimes, and it depends on the job. Office job starting positions normally get a week after you've earned your days (you can only earn a maximum of 7 in a year), higher ups get more. The most I heard was execs getting 3 weeks. It's not required either. The only thing required by law is if you take a medical leave of absence they have to reserve your position for when you get back. But they don't have to pay you. Just like with maternity leave, only 3 weeks required and they don't have to pay you (most don't). Some places have some sick days, others make you take vacation days if you're sick. So, people go to work sick all the time and spread their germs.

redsky my holiday always came n working weeks so divisible by 5 .

But then realised that 20+13 = 33 not 28, so am quite flushed now.

I work for a large company in the US. We start on 23 days, and go up to 33 days after 10 years. 8 public holidays added on to that. If I'm off sick I get 70% of full pay.

wobblyweebles · 29/04/2014 22:50

Oh and dh gets 25 days plus public holidays, which is what I also got in my last two jobs.

DizzyKipper · 30/04/2014 07:14

I don't know whether it's a thing with care work employers but it certainly seems it sometimes. The ones I've had have been quite devious, one actually included rolled up holiday pay in the hourly rate without letting me know at any point in the interview. Always suspect them of trying to pull something!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 30/04/2014 07:22

Agree generous suggests more than the statutory entitlement. Probably worth checking the contract carefully if you get that far for any other surprises.

LiegeAndLief · 30/04/2014 07:30

If I saw this on a job advert I would think it was generous. Every job I have had has offered 25 days plus bank holidays, and has always worded this as 25 days holiday. So going by the same format I would assume this means 28 days plus bank holiday, which is generous, it's certainly more than I've ever had.

LiegeAndLief · 30/04/2014 07:31

Sorry, missed your update - in that case YANBU, not generous!
