To think this is totally unacceptable, or am I being precious?

My DD has a pea sized lump on her shoulder. I had it checked by GP who said she didn't think it was anything nasty but that it needed to be ultrasounded to make sure. She also said she'd have the referral marked urgent (dd is only 14 weeks old). 2 weeks down the line I hadn't heard anything so chased the referral. Turns out theses surgery had neglected to send it.

Today I called the ultrasound unit to ceck they'd received it. They have but we now have to wait 6 weeks as the consultant doesn't think it sounds like a concern. Is it unreasonable for me to be upset about this? By that point the lump will have been there for 8 weeks. I can't get the worst case scenarios out of my head. If I'm not being unreasonable, is there anything I can do about this? Please help me, I'm in quite a state about this!

YANBU to be worried. However the consultant has reviewed the relevant information from the referral and he obviously doesn't think it is urgent or else you would have been seen quicker.

Plus the GP has already said he doesn't think it is anything nasty so is basically referring for reassurance anyway.

I think you need to try and stay calm about .

I can understand why you are upset but I'm sure if the consultant had any concerns he would see you much sooner.

You could go back to the GP and ask them if they can do anything to push the appointment forward (whilst expressing your annoyance that they forgot to send the original referral)

I can't help, but can sympathise, my son's head is too large and an odd shape, he was referred by the GP to a paediatrician, a week or two later I rang the surgery and it hadn't been sent. Finally got the referral to see someone quite junior I think (I was just glad to get seen as the initial referral we were given was 6 weeks away and I still would be waiting now!), they said he needed a scan as the gaps in his skull are small and there is a history of early skull fusing in my family. I was glad it was getting sorted, we heard nothing about the scan so my DH chased it up and they said they weren't going to do one now and just see him in 2 or 3 months.

The HV told me to pester them when I was waiting for an appointment initially but didn't want to be a pain and them get annoyed but perhaps it does work. Also, I'm considering going privately, so if that is possible perhaps look into that. My LO is 14 weeks old too, it is so horrible to be worrying and waiting around. I hope you are both okay.

The consultant has reviewed the referral and decided where to fit you in. If he was concerned then you would have been seen yesterday. YANBU to be concernes for your dd and you could phone to let them know you are worried and would take a last minute cancellation.
