to think a bit of sugar is fine

Am I in the minority for not thinking sugar is as bad as booze and tobacco?

I mean its been consumed for thousands of years and is natural and found in most foods anyway.

Bought some doughnuts for the team yesterday, but quite a few turned their nose up and one said they would rather have bananas. One person wanted to take the last two back as a treat for the kids, but this did get a disapproving look from other mums.

Sicaq, you and me are on the same page. My advise to the OP would be either to carry a bag of sugar round with you and if said incident happens again, just pull a doughnut and dip it into your bag of sugar or maybe just don't offer out your doughnuts again. If no appreciation is given, then these people are not deserving of such divine sweetyness

Some interesting material about healthy eating here - see 'Myth 5' about sugar:

YANBU. Doughnuts are DELICIOUS and there's no harm in enjoying a treat now and then.

However, I do think sugar is somewhat addictive (for me anyway) and certainly it's very hard to wean yourself off the stuff, when eating sugary things becomes a regular habit.

I'm trying to cut down on sugary foods at the mo, in an effort to lose weight, and find that there are temptations everywhere for a sugar addict like me.

It doesn't offend me if people don't want the doughnut, but snooty comments about the banana would annoy me. I took some satsumas into work at Christmas as ended up with too many to eat at home, and no one ate them, but all the biscuits, chocolates and mince pies got scarfed down in no time at all!!
