Honestly it's just so exhausting, I'm convinced dc 4 would be much happier living with a zillion other over talkative children...

So send her to live in some sort of commune with adults who love children that do.not.stop.talking.at.all.ever?

I told ds (age 6) that he had verbal diarrhoea one day. He thought this was very funny.

A few days later in a crowded room, he's chatting away, then turns to me in a loud voice and announces "I've got diarrhoea again haven't I?"

Pause while the other parents try to usher their dc away... Grin

stubbornstains · 28/04/2014 09:56

It takes me ages to wake up in the morning, especially at the moment, as I've been suffering from insomnia lately.

Cue 7am on the dot:

"Sun's come on my (gro) clock mummy. Here's lemur, she's poorly".

"Mmmmh"

"Mummy, what are we doing today?"

"Mmmmh...pre school".

"Mummy, what are we doing after pre school?"

"Mmmmmh"

"Mummy, can we go to the park after pre school?"

"Mmmmmmh" (unwilling to commit)

"Mummy, why's the ceiling all lumpy?"

"Mmmmmh"

...ad infinitum...

Dunwinging

Yes to getting the chatterboxes together. I have to warn you the 2 elfykittens are now singing too. Mostly to songs from Frozen. It's driving me slightly more insane. It's going to be grim to have 3 of them in a room. I vote we just throw in some food from time to time and open Wine as a painkiller.

So. A house. Lots of round edged furniture. 2 rooms for toys. 2 rooms for film watching. A shoot for food and CCTV in every room. It'll take 20 kids or so.

We take turns - say 1.5 hours each to monitor the group and intervene as necessary. Loud speakers in the corners of every room so we only have communication from our direction unless physical intervention is needed.

The operations room will be comfortable and will have rescue remedy available for those who like that kind of thing. Yarns, hooks and needles for those. A very comfy recliner and a beer/wine fridge in the well stocked kitchenette. Lots of chocolate. Feel free to add your own luxuries but that'll do for me on my shift.

LyndaCartersBigPants · 28/04/2014 10:34

All of these are making me feel better thanks! My DS will go on about his latest adventures on minecraft. If I miss the beginning of his sentence and don't realise that he's talking about minecraft (duh, as if that ever happens) I will sometimes think he's talking about real life and get very confused!

He will also whitter on about Pokemon, which I have absolutely I clue about. I used to sometimes use a stock "what goes on in that mind of yours?!" When I'd totally missed what he was saying, but he caught me out on it by repeating exactly what he'd just said, so now I just smile and nod until he shuts up.

LyndaCartersBigPants · 28/04/2014 10:34

No clue.

drivenfromdistraction · 28/04/2014 10:39

I think I am running the home for loud, over-talkative children.

I have three of them, ALL OF WHOM TALK ALL THE TIME IN VERY LOUD VOICES, PREFACING EVERY SENTENCE WITH MUMMY, MUMMY, MUMMY.

Send yours here. I will turn off my hearing aids and smile benignly at the lot of them.

jollyjester · 28/04/2014 14:25

Yup I'll send my 2.5 yo.

At a recent Health Check with the HV, I was asked "Would she know 50 words?"

At this point my DD launched into her rendition of "Sister Suffragette" from Mary Poppins (complete with straw boater hat and sash she brings everywhere)

HV "OK nothing wrong with her speech then"

From the second she opens her eyes in the morning she narrates everything she's doing.

Car journeys are fun "I can see trees and fields and cows and houses and fields and sheep and the sheep aren't in the sheds anymore and trees and cars and thats where Libby lives" No punctuation. I don't even know how she breathes sometimes.

I like going to work sometimes. Its quiet.

Purplehonesty · 28/04/2014 14:42

Sign me up! I have a sore throat and head today so I have sent ds (4) next door to grandad while I sit in the garden in silence.
They are mowing the lawns which will take at least two hours. Woohoo!

fuxache · 28/04/2014 14:48

I have 4dc who are generally quite normal in their chatting until the phone rings or something interesting comes on tv/radio, then they turn into a chatterbox flash mob!

They all suddenly appear from all over the house, talking at me non stop about all sorts of crap depending on how important they phone call might be.

Or they'll all start demanding answers from ridiculous question when I am trapped in the car with them.

Some days I could happily plug my ears up with blu tac or superglue !!

fuxache · 28/04/2014 14:55

My Dc3 is the worst chatterbox of them all though. He is 4y and just narrates his whole day.

When he runs out of things to talk about he sings. After a good 20 mins of singing Happy last week he turned to me and in a very serious voice said "Mamma, Happiness is the truth!". He then needed to discuss the philosophy of happiness.
I am counting down the days until he goes to school...

I can't fob him off either, I need to give him facts, googled if necessary or he just goes on and on. The more excited he gets, the louder he gets!

He is so lovely! Especially now that he is in bed asleep! (I'm not in the UK)

RandomMess · 28/04/2014 21:28

Hmmm I think we need very many of these places...

StairsInTheNight · 28/04/2014 21:40

Mummy, guess what this is in my hand? Guess what shape this sweet is! Guess! Guess! And one guess is never enough, oh no. You need to guess many times even when you don't care a shit about what the answer is.

KingscoteStaff · 28/04/2014 21:57

Mummy, what is taller, the Eiffel Tower or Canary Wharf?

I'm not sure darling, I think it's Canary Wharf.

So how tall is Canary Wharf exactly then?

I'm not quite sure. Pretty tall, I think. Hang on, I've just got to...

How many of our house would be the same as Canary Wharf, mummy? Muummy, you're not listening, mummy. If Canary Wharf is taller, Mummy, then how many Canary Wharfs would be the same as that building in Dubai, then? Mummy? Mummy?

Hang on a sec, I'll Google it..... Hmmmm...

So how many floors does Canary Wharf have mummy? Does that pyramid bit count as a floor? What is in that pyramid bit, mummy?

Oh! Actually, the Eiffel tower IS taller. So now you know.

VERY SLIGHT PAUSE

Mummy, Muuuuuummmmy, what would be faster, me in a speedboat or you skiing down a black run? What if I had a jetpack on? Muuuummmmy, you're not listening muuuuummmmy. Where are you going?

RubyReins · 28/04/2014 22:01

drivenfromdistraction I turn off my hearing aids too Grin

BolshierAyraStark · 28/04/2014 22:21

Apparently tomorrow we are running a VERY busy cafe but we'll be unable to open said cafe until after nursery as the ordering girl (DD) is unavailable til then so everyone will be saying 'where is the ordering girl, the one who takes the orders?'
& on & on... Hmm

Longdistance · 28/04/2014 22:25

Do you accept dc that talk themselves to sleep? Dd1 will not fall asleep unless chattering about random shit things.

FreudiansSlipper · 28/04/2014 22:40

I can not take ds to the cinema we had to leave half way through The Muppets as he would not stop asking questions. just watch the film and you will know what happens next. it is the same with anything on tv I do not know why he bothers putting a dvd on when he talks through it all and I have no idea what is going on

we can not enjoy a film at home either Hmm

Plomino · 28/04/2014 22:54

Can I send the DS2 that learnt his first word 'wiiiiiindfrog!' at about a year and hasn't paused for breath since ? He's nearly 17 . We've had years of Lego , more Lego , mine craft , numerous computer game commentaries etc etc , but he doesn't even fall asleep in silence ! No no , from about 8 months he turned into a head rocker , which used to make him get to sleep , but for some reason he would do it whilst belting out 'the wheels on the bus' at 200 decibels every night . We knew once he started singing he'd be asleep in about ten minutes . He's still doing it , except that now I get various random Coldplay anthems belted out at odd hours of the night instead , as if he were at a stadium concert . Last night at 2am I got random chunks of 'I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing '

Honestly , I pity his future partner .

BookABooSue · 28/04/2014 23:06

I tried bribing ds (5) with pennies to stop talking. Even when he was watching a cartoon he couldn't last longer than 5 minutes.

BookABooSue · 28/04/2014 23:12

And yy to talking right up until he falls asleep (and even sometimes during his sleep he'll talk and sing!). Yesterday he was chatting about something until the second before he fell asleep for a nap. He woke up an hour later and launched straight back in to what he'd been talking about when he fell asleep! I sometimes sit up late at night even when I'm exhausted just to have a moment of quiet.

stealthsquiggle · 28/04/2014 23:19

DD (7) used to have her brain hard wired to her mouth, but nowadays only does it when she is tired - she goes into transmit mode. I generally make active listening noises at her but get caught out occasionally

DD: wlknvkslnvklnslejnvklnsdvlknlksnvle
Me: Hmmm, that's nice DD
DD: nelkvnl Tnvlid knelffnoinerognoen
Me: uh huh, really, DD?
DD: engrlkneklgnlkrngb.knblrgkmbrlgkmrlkgmbp?
Me: hmm, yes, ok
DD: oooh, can I really? Thank you Mummy
Me: oh shit, what did I just agree to (I don't usually say that bit out loud)

Sarahplane · 28/04/2014 23:21

Is there space for my dd? She never ever stops talking even in her sleep. She's nearly nine and showing no signs of stopping. I work in a call centre and just long for five minutes with no one talking.

NaturalBaby · 28/04/2014 23:23

Ds2 and Ds3 are both of the incredibly talkative type.

To top it all off Ds1 has now hit the charming boy phase of making strange noises all day long - what on earth is that about?!

The main reason I'm still up past midnight is because the house is silent. Bliss!
