Integrate Charity Shop's FB post

See pic or link for a Daily Wail style rant from an angry resident.

Vile! But on the upside I now know what Integrate do - so it's resulted in good publicity. In your face, nasty letter writer!

jacks365 · 25/04/2014 07:51

Think I'll make a trip up Liverpool Road next time I'm in Preston.

Aeroflotgirl · 25/04/2014 07:51

Silly ignorant person

WotchOotErAPolis · 25/04/2014 07:53

It's a sad indictment of today's society I'm afraid. No more than that. I live sandwiched between a homeless hostel; mental health day centre and an off-licence. All except the offie were family homes when we moved here. The next street up has a young ex-offenders home and a women's refuge. Within a mile of me are several pawnbrokers, payday loan shops and a Primark, none of which existed when we moved in.

Tragically this is just the way society has broken down these days. Whilst I understand the writer's frustration, there ain't nothing they can do. Now that I earn £6K pa (happy days) and DH has just been made redundant for the second time in 12 months, having been out of work before that for 16 months, we will be using the hospice shops a lot more too.

londonrach · 25/04/2014 07:57

Strange. Why would anyone send that letter. You sure it's not made up. Charity shops are visited by people in all walks of life. Didn't Victoria beck ham give some of her stuff recently.

Ledkr · 25/04/2014 08:02

People really do need to get a fucking life don't they?
Imagine having so little to do than write bollocks like that and actually post it. Ffs.

DogCalledRudis · 25/04/2014 08:11

We need to do like in Germany people hire vandals to graffiti buildings and burn rubbish on the streets to keep property prices from going up.

I'd love it if we could spread this about, anyone willing to share that link on their FB?

londonrach, no, it's genuine. I just think its so selfish that they'd begrudge disabled people trying to get a bit of work experience in that shop. The shop was empty before the charity took over, a sign of the times. Even Penwortham has to face the reality of the economy.

They should put it in their window and invite responses and letters of support to the council -and put them in the window too.

My mum complains about a white van which is often parked near her house. She doesn't actually use the phrase 'lowers the tone' ... but it's what she thinking.

I'm Hmm or Grin depending on my mood.

Pumpkinpositive · 25/04/2014 09:29

That's hilarious. That person should try stand up. I'm grinning from ear to ear. Grin Grin

ICanSeeTheSun · 25/04/2014 09:42

Just imagine homes under the hammer commentary.

This house has 3 bedrooms a dated kitchen and bathroom with plenty of out door space, this house also is close to a charity shop. Who ever buys this will have a bargin.

kentishgirl · 25/04/2014 09:59

"where a business owner complained there were 'too many' charity shops opening in the high street. Snobbery and Nimbyism alive and well in many places."

Actually, as a business owner myself, I'm disturbed to see a large number of charity shops in a town centre. It's not snobbery or numbyism - I donate to charity shops, and I buy from charity shops.

But a large number is a very worrying sign for a town; charity shops go into empty shop units. A lot of empty shop units means the town's commercial centre is failing badly. It means closed businesses. It means loss of paid retail jobs. It reduces the type and scope of shops available to local people.

FourForksAche · 25/04/2014 10:01

Kentish, charity shops on the high street are a symptom, not the cause of a failing local economy.

OP posts:
BigRedBall · 25/04/2014 10:05

Strange. The local shops in our area are 80% charity shops and its one of the most expensive areas in our city with houses around the 1million mark that are closest to the local shops. There's no Conservative stronghold in our area either though, so I bet that plays a big part.

ThePriory · 25/04/2014 10:09

This obsession with house prices is a rather disturbing symptom of a capitalist society drunk on greed.
People are genuinely more concerned about protecting the wealth they already have, then the increasing number of people who are unable to ever afford a house in the first place, who have to buy second hand from charity shops...

Exactly, BigRed... It's not even likely that it would have any effect!

PrimalLass · 25/04/2014 10:20

BigRedBall - I think that is because charity shops get reduced rates. So the normal rent/rates in the expensive areas will be too much for other businesses.

kentishgirl · 25/04/2014 10:25

'Kentish, charity shops on the high street are a symptom, not the cause of a failing local economy.'

That was exactly my point. Of course they don't cause it. A large number demonstrates that the town is failing commercially. So it's worrying for businesses, and it should be worrying for residents, as they are also effected by the commercial death of a town.
