to think children shouldn't wee behind my car and that you should carry a tub or something

On car park as I type. Family next to my car just got back. Little girl just had wee on floor behind and between both cars (I was just getting out and the dangly bits of my sling nearly went in it).

AIBU To think that you would carry around potty, jar or tub for this purpose when your child was this age (under 4ish).

I might be U because I have a baby so have no experience of this stage. Also it is the hospital car park I am thinking they might be stressed from visiting an ill relative.

but... there are toilets next to us in the building on one side, and also a wide vergey bit with trees and a wall - in this situation I would use the verge or a tub.

I am posting from interest really to see what people would do ready for when my dc reach this stage!

I've got 3 dc and totally know when they've got to go they've got to go, but I wouldn't just let them do it next to someone's car door I'd take them over to the side at least. I always carried the porta potty the plastic thing with the lined bags, so they wouldn't have to wee on the ground if possible.

My DS (4) is joyous when he can pee outdoors, runs to nearest hedge gets his bits out and shouts'im putting the fire out'

It's a bit of wee, it won't hurt anything!

MoominsAreScary · 23/04/2014 16:04

They didnt do it next to the car door, it was behind the car

Its much easier I found running a child to the toilet when you only have the one. I couldnt do it now with ds3, with double buggy ds4 etc.

I do remember my mum running off the bus with dsis needing a wee and me trying to keep up with her, shed left me and thw buggy on the bus Grin

I now have a memory of Bill Bryson and "the toity jar"?!!

I'm envious of all the parents who have children who will actually wee outside. Mine never would, it was a real faff. A small puddle of toddler wee wouldn't upset me at all.

OP, I'd suggest the curtain department at Peter Jones. They're very understanding. Wink

Risk it I think I probably agree with you on balance, if you could actually see the loos then I'd probably wonder why the child hadn't been whisked there quickly but would never say anything as I'm sure my ds will make sure I have to do far worse over the next year or two! I think that's why I made the comparison with the John Lewis thread - people were saying 'just take them to the loo' but there was also a nearby loo in this situation so was surprised the answers were so different. I am not judging anyone though, I never judge what I hacent been through, and I have not potty trained!

I've been in your car neighbours position. Ds decided he wanted a wee once we returned to the car park after his last hospital appt. the toilets were a trek back across the car park and up a slope before weaving through the people who potter around the foyer of the hospital. He would not have made it. So I opened both doors, stood in between and aimed him as best as possible underneath the car. Then washed it away with cola, which was the only liquid to hand.

As you say you've not been there yet, you can be forgiven for doing the pfb 'my dc will never do that'. But please think back to this thread when baby is a toilet trained toddler or even preschooler and announces, after you've double and triple checked they do not need to go, that they need to go NOW! And the nearest toilet is a trek back across the carpark and through a busy area. You've not brought the potty because they've not used it in months and you've not for a spare change of clothes because, at very nearly 4, you thought they were past that level of urgency.
