AIBU?

to think we should be able to make our own choice regarding sugar free juice

I am fed up having to scour the shelves to find drinks that dont say sugar free. Id much rather my kids have a little bit of sugar instead of the crap they use instead of it. My kids mostly have milk or water but occasionally (maybe a few times a week) have diluting juice. Sometimes i dilute fresh juice but i like the convenience of having diluting juice.

Why dont we get the choice anymore?

Fever Tree is the only tonic brand I can find that doesn't have artificial sweeteners in it. It's a pain.

There are some brands out there in supermarkets but are quite expensive. I buy Rocks Lemon and Blosson Cottage Morello Cherry cordial and sometimes use cheap Aldi fizzy water if I want a fizz.

Belvoir/Bottlegreen also do cordials but have annoying combinations...just give us one flavour please

M&S do sweetner-free lemonade, tonic water and squash.

Eddie There's also Waitrose Essential or Tesco Finest, both available in six packs of handy 250 ml cans. Or Fentimans, which is a posho brand like Fever Tree. I don't know if any of the other supermarkets do one.

Annoyingly, Fanta Lemon in Spain doesn't have artificial sweeteners in (yet?) but it does here. If you want nice lemonade here you have to spend s on San Pellegrino Limonata at 4 for a six pack of cans from Waitrose.

YANBU this drives me to distraction!

I don't like DC's having sweeteners, I would rather they had the sugar that body is more capable of processing. They only have NAS squash if there is absolutely no alternative and never fruit shoots etc. I am obsessive about tooth brushing, they see our dentist regularly and I ensure they are very active. I buy only high juice squash, the "full fat" version. But over the past 3 years or so I've noticed that the ranges are being continually narrowed. Tesco has shifted all but four of their flavours to the NAS type, they used to do about 6-8 flavours.

Incidentally, if it is of any use Waitrose have by far the best selection.

YANBU.

Stinklebell, we have the same problems with dc pains plus diarrhea if too much of it.

I really try and avoid the NAS versions of everything. Took me a while to convince mil not to give my dc the squash she buys for dn and that they are happy with water. Over the weekend she said she had bought the regular stuff and gave it to dc, only for me to double check and piss her off as Robinson's have stuck artificial crap in the regular squash.
The tummy aches on Sunday night was not fun, so mockingbird, yes a little bit now and then does matter.

Tesco Apple and Mango High Juice is delicious.

Any of the Tesco High Juice is artificial crap-free.

No, Tesco do two sorts of hi juice. Green label is sugar, blue label has sweetener. Although I've noticed they've started doing some of the flavours in different bottles now which is less confusing.

Lemonade hunters, try 7 Up. Last time I looked it was sugar and no sweeteners.

Ah, on the new ones, sugar have green caps, no added sugar (sweetener) have blue caps.

I hate the taste of sweeteners it completely astounds me that anyone can eat or drink anything with them in. Now it appears that the health implications of consuming them are actually worse than those of sugar in moderation you would have thought that the tide would be starting to turn back wouldnt you?

Im guessing there is more "money" to be made in sugar free products.

DS 1 (13) already chooses to avoid sugar free himself when he buys drinks.

I tend to make my own squash now - the first few times it was a faff but now I do it weekly its not a hassle at all.

Anyone who is after Rock's squash should check out Home Bargains as I bought the mixed fruit one in there last week for 99p a bottle.

I only buy the odd bottle of squash for DD2 to use in her swimming training drink (she drinks more of it that way) as we only have water or milk to drink at home, but if I want to buy it I want the choice to have sugar not crap as well.

I also have noticed the sneaking in of artificial sweeteners in supposedly full sugar drinks and was shocked. Very sneaky!

YANBU. Sugar free has something in them that causes a reaction in me. My legs get really hot and itchy and I have to drop my trousers until it calms down. Drives me nuts when I can't find any but htere are shelves and shelves of sugarfree.

YANBU

I catagorise aspartame as a poison, it has no plase as an ingredient in food or drink.

"Fever Tree is the only tonic brand I can find that doesn't have artificial sweeteners in it. It's a pain."

Especially since Tesco only sell it in the larger bottles. I love an occasional G & T, but don't drink loads of it and prefer to buy the small 100ml tins as the rest of the tonic water would go flat before I could finish it.

I really dislike the horrible aftertaste of drinks containing artificial sweeteners and get fed up with pubs that only sell diet mixer drinks.

The irony is that artificial sweeteners actively encourage a sweet tooth and everyone I know who drinks diet drinks is overweight and never seems to lose any, so why bother?

Whoever wanted lemonade without sweeteners, Waitrose does it. And in half litre bottles as well as litre bottles.

I honestly can't find it in any other supermarket.

Waitrose sells Fever Tree in small bottles too.

It is a 40 mile round trip to Waitrose for me. I tried Ocado but they spectacularly cocked up our order twice, so will stick to Tesco, who at least deliver what I order when I want it.

Oh jeez this thread makes me feel Hmm... Hands up I love love love sugar free squash (and my little girl has probably 2 cups a day - very diluted)

We otherwise have a pretty healthy diet no fast food or processed junk...except my squash.... Is aspartame etc really that awful??

(Selfishly I don't want the calories in normal squash and I am obsessed about my daughter not having rotten teeth..)
