To point out spelling mistake in job advert?

I'm applying for a job and the job title was spelled incorrectly in the advert. Should I mention that to show I'm detail orientated or ignore it to be tactful?

Ignore it, unless it's for a proof reading job. They're probably in enough trouble for letting the typo slip though already without having it highlighted again.

Fair point. It's for a receptionist job, which does require attention to detail but the last thing I'd want to do is make someone feel worse. I just feel sorry for people who might copy and paste the job title from the advert to make sure they get it right.

Don't mention it. Makes you sound a bit of a snitch, tbh! If I was the person guilty of the mistake and I opened an application letter pointing out the error that had probably already got me into hot water, I would bin it "lose" it.

KatoPotato · 22/04/2014 16:41

I'd be tempted to copy the title and add (sic)

Tempted, but wouldn't do it! I'd keep it up my sleeve in case iws asked at interview about my attention to details skills, you could say cheerfully 'Well, I did spot the typo in the ad!' GRIN!

I was thinking of bringing it up in a cheerful way, maybe even joking I spotted the 'deliberate mistake'. I definitely don't want to upset anyone.

On a serious note though, mistakes in job adverts do annoy me because they would judge an applicant for spelling errors. This is an error that would have been picked up if they had used spell check as well!

There is a chance of course that it is deliberate as they want someone who can spell to point it out?

Topaz25 · 22/04/2014 18:59

BuzzardBird I did wonder if that could be it.

In that case I would wait for a 'sign' in the interview. Good luck.

Thank you.
