I'm loving all the chubby baby photos! It's a good job I'm pregnant as otherwise I'd be very broody!

Having had a chubby baby I did feel like I missed out onhaving a newborn, ds was 10 pounds at birth and could raise his head and shoulders when on his tummy about 3 hours after he was born. I remember my first mamma-group meeting ( lots of mums getting together with babies born in the same month) the babies were 8 weeks old, ds was in 6-8 months clothing and sitting on my knee with just my hand on his back, the lady sat next to me had the most stunning teeny baby who looked just like a doll, as we got chatting she mentioned her babies weight and he was smaller than ds had beenat birth, now at 1 they both look pretty similar.

The babies I have known who have been chubby tend to be breastfed babies, probably just chance rather than an underlying breast/bottle feeding reason.

We took ds2 to Gran Canaria as a baby, he was a huge podgy baby and drew no end of attention. He looked a lot like the marshmallow man on Ghostbusters. One of the waiters called him Rambo and in the markets we were stopped repeatedly so that they could squeeze his cheeks and thighs. I just used to smile, he's now 25 lean and toned so his podginess didn't last.

I wonder what people think they'd look like if they ate all day but couldn't walk?

spatchcock · 22/04/2014 15:25

I love these pictures! Want to squeeze all those cheeks.

When did fat become such a loaded word? It's not a bad thing in a baby. If she called her obese I'd be offended but the diet thing is idiotic!

SIL called DD1 "a lump" at 5 monthsAngry She wasn't even chubby like those lovely photos, just a bit bigger than her twin sister.

I swiftly added that she's a lump of gorgeousness and stared pointedly at SIL. Whose slightly older son had been described by HV as overweight.

Last week a friend of my daughter's asked if I was worried about my little guy getting diabetes, which I assume is some reference to him being fat. What I don't understand though is that despite looking huge and everyone commenting on his size, he's only on the 75th percentile which I thought was pretty normal. He's also on the 75th for height so I thought this meant he was in proportion.
