To be worrying about bump on sons head?

3 weeks ago my son jumped up to hug my husband and caught my husbands chin with the left side top of his head ( on the bony part )
Son didn't cry, no problems went to a theme park for the day
Noticed a hard lump that evening when it was bath time, he said it didn't hurt.
It's going down but is still slightly there and it's been 3 weeks today which I'm not happy about.
Hes fine in himself and says it doesn't hurt when I'm prodding it.
We saw the nurse last week for his pre school jabs who said to see the doctor next week if I was still concerned, my doctor is back in Tuesday.
Surely it couldn't be fractured with no pain??
It was probably the size of a 50p and now about the size of a 5p.
It's rock hard almost feels like bone itself not soft and squishy.

Yes, best to ask random strangers on the internet than a qualified medical professional who can examine him

I posted about the same thing with my DD! She's 5 and still has a lump from a fall 3 weeks ago. It's gone down a lot and she doesn't seem bothered at all, but it's definitely still there.

I'm not really concerned about DD as she's obviously fine in herself. Seems like bumps can just take a while to fully disappear.

MrsKCastle · 18/04/2014 11:41

Wolfwhistler no need for that. In my experience it's best to ask first because often it turns out that it's so common and minor it's not worth bothering a professional.

As you can see in my post I saw the nurse last week who obviously examined him
My doctors been away and is back Tuesday and will be going in then if it's still present
I don't think a&e would rush him in to have an x ray when hea showing no signs of discomfort, am I wrong?

Probably a subperiosteal haematoma but GP ought to have a look to confirm - no need for an emergency appointment.

Harmless, will gradually resolve over several months, not associated with a fracture & in any case his father's chin is unlikely to be hard enough to break a bone unless he's Desperate Dan

DOI I'm a GP in my spare time Smile

Whichway,
Thankyou for your reply
I've never heard of this, will def take him in to the doctor on Tuesday then.
This is my thinking too, I'm sure a fracture couldn't occur just from bumping my husbands chin!
And combined with absolutely no pain / any other symptoms im assuming it couldn't be?
The lump as always been hard, bone like not soft whatsoever.
