To think DD's tattoo isn't the end of the world?

Or her navel piercing? The tattoo is less than one cm square, the subject refers to her nickname as a baby and it's behind the ear. The piercing? Not infected. She's 18, and they were birthday presents from friends.

MIL: "Disgraceful, makes you look like a dockyard tart"

SIL: "Really, I would have thought you had more sense. I blame your mother (her Dsis)".

Her cousins: "COOOOL! Wish we could get one". Cue IL grumbles of "disown you...leave it all to the cats...housing estate children".

BIL: "Christ. Fancy a pint?"

These are the expected responses at the gathering of the clan on Sunday. Personally, I think life's too short.

At a family gathering the same kind of thing happened but Aunt aged 68 said "ooh tell me where did you go to get it done shall I get a butterfly on my ankle ". The younger part of the group looked horrified and one said "not at your age or something similar". Aunt said " well yours will still be there at my age why shouldn't I have one?...... Conversation sort of died then.

I agree. My DS wanted a tattoo for his 16th birthday, it was the ONLY thing he wanted. So I let him. As long as it wasn't on his face/neck/hands etc. he wanted his baby sister's name in Chinese writing, I didn't agree with it but, hey, I felt there are worse things. My family gave me and still give me stick.

The only concern is that his baby sister may be cute now but when they are both adults...I would not have married my DH if he had had his vile sister's name tattooed on his body Grin

MILs comment is horrible!

However I would be very disappointed if my DD got any tattoo let alone one in such a visible place. It could effect her chances at getting a job later on.
