to not want your dog to "kiss" my dc face

Sorry for grumpy old lady rant but we spent a few hours in our local country park and had a picnic - me and my 3 young dds.
While sitting and eating 6 dogs came over at the same time circling us after scraps of food (don't think they were too impressed by all dc eating blueberries). Anyway, there were 3 owners walking over slowly while I shielded dc. When the owners eventually made it over my two youngest (2yo twins) were scared and crying. They didn't apologise and just commented how friendly their dogs are and how they Love to lick and kiss people but would never bite. Now I find it naive that people would be so confident their dog won't bite but that aside... I do not want my children's faces licked by a tongue that moments ago had probably been licking its own bottom or eating poo. Dog owners seem to think I would find this cute. I love dogs but I do not find it cute!

A pack of dogs shouldn't be allowed to circle anyone anywhere. Running around minding their own business fine but as soon as they are obviously approaching anyone they should be called away. I watch my son constantly when we are out in parks and dog owners should do the same with their pets. My son doesn't have the understanding to understand how to behave around dogs and I don't want him hurt or frightened because owners can't keep their dogs away.

Bunnies if you want your dog to roam free then take it to the dog park. It's not just six hours a year, as per your whinge above: I run in the park daily and don't want to be chased, my children are taken in the autumn to collect leaves and twigs, people train there every day, people work there. And 365 days a year, no one but you is interested in your big bouncy bundle of germs and irritation.

Keep it on a leash in public if you can't be bothered to train it properly. Lazy dog owners piss me off.

Yanbu.

MIL's dog is like this-or rather, she's tolerant of the dog's terrible behaviour. I have no patience for it whatsoever.

My dog is by no means perfect, but I do pride myself in not allowing her to be a slobbering maniac.

BunniesBurneze · 17/04/2014 08:25

I'm not lazy, he is well trained, and what is this dog park you speak of?

Goblinchild · 17/04/2014 08:25

Every year, there are countless incidents, and every couple of years the laws tighten. Eventually, dog owners will realise what they have lost as a consequence of the irresponsibility of a few.
When I was a child, no dogs were banned from beaches or playgrounds. Now all my local beaches have restrictions of one sort or another, all our children's playgrounds are fenced and ban dogs. There are still local woods and parks, and the dog walkers are very sensible about their animals, which are mostly well-trained. So no need for restrictions...yet.

Goblinchild · 17/04/2014 08:28

We're out in our local woods a lot, I'm a member of a conservation group that cuts and removes rubbish and manages the woodlands.

BoneyMan · 17/04/2014 08:29

What is a dog park? It's a park or part of a park especially for dogs and their owners where dogs can be let off the leash without bothering anyone else. Having lived all over England in the last ten years I can confirm that they are extremely common.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2014 08:30

I like the sound of a dog park but don't know of one in my neck of the woods.

BunniesBurneze · 17/04/2014 08:33

I'd bloody love one of those and infact if I win the lottery I intend to make one on a membership basis, but I don't know of any.

BoneyMan · 17/04/2014 08:33

Google it then, or call the local council and ask.

BoneyMan · 17/04/2014 08:34

Why are you telling me you don't know of them? I don't know of the circumference of the moon, I don't know how much gold is in Fort Knox.

If you don't know if there is one near you but you like the sound of it then find out if there is one instead of telling me about it.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2014 08:36

Confused Boney was I telling you? I don't have a dog, I don't need a dog park. You have lost me.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2014 08:37

Did you get out of bed the wrong side Boney?

BoneyMan · 17/04/2014 08:38

You said "I like the sound of a dog park but don't know of one in my neck of the woods." and I am saying good for you, thanks for the update.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2014 08:38

Are you always this cross Boney?

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2014 08:40

Chill.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2014 08:43

Can someone explain to me why Boney is so cross?

BunniesBurneze · 17/04/2014 08:44

I am calling "bullshit" on their being loads of dog parks everywhere.

I've never heard of any, known of any, or seen any. I have also lived in a few places in England.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2014 08:44

Well thanks for the update Bunnies. Wink Grin
