to be so worried about this?

Two weeks ago I was phoned at 6pm and told that my Nan (who lives approx one hour away via the M1) had took a turn for the worst and the Doctors were not sure if she would survive the night. I went and saw her and she was very poorly. Driving home I was double flashed by the speed cameras.

I got home at 10.30pm and went to bed as I had work the next day. At midnight my Mum phoned to say Nan's breathing had changed and they had been called in ASAP. I made my way to her again. Unfortunately in my haste to get there in time I was going much much to fast and was double flashed again. I was going at at least 95mph.

I don't normally drive like a complete idiot but I was desperate to get there and being 12.30am the road was empty.

I have worried for the last two weeks about the implications but my DH keeps telling me to stop worrying and it will all be fine. Am I BU to be worried??

I have a clean licence at the moment. Realistically I can get the children to and from school each day. My difficulty is my DS who is autistic and needs to be driven to his clubs.

Completely my own fault and I will take the punishment (I just feel so crap about how my boys will suffer). No excuse to drive so fast but I honestly didn't realize the speed and I HAD to get to her. My Dad (her only child) died last year and my other Nan earlier this year, so life has been stressful lately.

It has now been 14 days and I have not heard anything. How likely is it that the ticket is lost in the post and I will get a court summons in a few months??

Sorry to hear about your Nan. I have had 'that phonecall' three times now - for my grandma, my dad and then my mum. All three were in the early hours of the morning & to be perfectly honest with you, I may have exceeded the speed limit on the way to the hospital(s). It's absolutely no defence, and I am not looking for anyone to approve, but in that situation you are only focused on getting there in time.

Having said that, there are so many traffic lights on my way to the hospital that achieving more than the speed limit would have been unlikely. But I do understand your reasons and I do actually hope that you hear no more about it. Looking back, you know it was wrong & dangerous - I'm far more concerned about habitual speeders who always have a justification.

Well. ..a little update.

Didn't hear a thing so I "got away" with it.

I am extremely grateful that I did and it really impressed upon me how difficult life would be without a car. I am definitely more speed aware now.

A friend was in a similar situation. She was only banned for 2 weeks. It'll be fine.

To all those hoping OP loses her licence, given the tone of her OP and the fact she is apologetic, shame on you.

OP was going to see an extremely ill relative, everyone reacts differently to this. Some would be calm, others not. OP has acknowledged she was wrong to speed and will most likely use this as a lesson for the future. Flaming is just an excuse to try and start a bun fight.

OP, I suspect this will be a fine and points, doubt very much it will be a ban as it's a first offence.

I currently have a issue like this. Cut long story short, my manager phoned me other 10 days ago to inform me that i had been caught speeding in the work car. I left work on the 29th may to take all my annual leave as i am due to have my baby in 6 weeks. I have been left work for over 3 weeks ago now and was only told about the speeding issues 10 days ago, i know it can take up to 14 days for the letter to come through the post, i know it's bad because she said that it had been reported that i was doing 67 in a 40, im not sure which road this was due to still waiting for the letter but im wondering why its taking so long and how on earth I was doing 67 in a 40, im not a fast careless driver and i do get carried away sometimes but not a excessive speed of 27mph over👀. I'm expecting a hefty fine and a poasible ban, my license is clean, i know it wont be a speed awareness course as the speed was to high and apparently you only get offered a speed awareness course for 7mph over limit. I'm so mad at myself and cannot understand why i would do this, i can deal with the fine and and the points but i really dont want to loose my licence with baby on the way and being able to get out and about😥. Some advice would be great or if anyone has been in this situation before, thanks.
