To want a new oven

PunkAssMoFo · 14/04/2014 15:10

DH broke oven door last night. Oven is fine but wearing a little, it was already here when we moved in 5 years ago. A new door is £150. A new oven is £300. To me it makes sense long term to buy a new one, DH disagrees.

Who is BU?

I'm with your DH on this one.

Depends whether you can afford new oven. I've got new one, it's bloody ace.

Robbo1961 · 14/04/2014 15:31

If you can afford it, buy a new one. If you can't, pay for a repair.

PunkAssMoFo · 14/04/2014 15:36

We can afford it. Would happily just repair if it didn't cost so much. Just doesn't make sense to me when the rest of the oven could start failing soon. We don't even know how old it is.

Get a new oven. You don't know how long the oven will last and if the oven breaks next week you will be spending £150 for no reason.

ICanSeeTheSun · 14/04/2014 15:40

Posted too quick but is that £300 fitted, as you need someone qualified to fit it.

WhispersOfWickedness · 14/04/2014 15:43

Get a new one. We did recently for a similar reason. We got a lovely one for £200, it was last year's model so much reduced, I had no idea that ovens went out of fashion HmmGrin

kinkyfuckery · 14/04/2014 15:45

I'd get a new oven if you can afford it.

ICanSeeTheSun - you only need a qualified fitter if it is gas, not electric.

FunkyBoldRibena · 14/04/2014 18:44

Our oven broke 8 weeks ago and I bought a Remoska. It's bloody brilliant and I won't be replacing the actual oven now.

ForalltheSaints · 14/04/2014 18:45

If a new oven is more energy efficient it's worth the extra money.

50KnockingonabiT · 14/04/2014 18:46

A new one if you can afford one, especially if the current one needs cleaning:)

jeanmiguelfangio · 14/04/2014 18:50

I need a new oven but cant afford it- buy a new oven op so I can live vicariously through you!!! I

mylaptopismylapdog · 14/04/2014 18:59

Yanbu it makes more sense to get a new one. It will be guaranteed if anything goes wrong in the near future, probably be more efficient energy wise and more importantly would be your choice and would make you happier. Oh and it might be stronger so it may not break it again!

howitis · 14/04/2014 19:15

Claim on home insurance? Depending in excess.

wowfudge · 14/04/2014 19:32

For £150 it's probably not worth making an insurance claim as you'd need to have accidental damage cover first, them the excess to pay. TBF it's sounding like an uneconomical repair if a brand new one is £300.

MindOut · 14/04/2014 19:33

I agree with you get a new one- and am trying to convince my husband to buy a new one but he is resisting spending money as usual!!
