Just that really.
My boyfriend of 9 months keeps calling me 'angel'
I have never liked it but this eve as we were signing off, he messaged 'good night angel' I replied 'I prefer you call me jacky, goodnight'

Aibu?
Feel like I may be.
Especially as he has been doing it for 9 months.

I can think of worse names. However, if you don't like being called 'angel' tell him not to call you that.

caruthers · 14/04/2014 14:55

My Wife most of the time refers to me as Mr Grumpy and has a ringtone that sings Mr Grumpy.

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 14/04/2014 14:56

Dh's ex wife has the same name as me which very handy as he is so the type to use the wrong name. In the early days he would say my name and then go "oh sorry i meant to say .. Oh no hang on no that's right" and then try and dig himself out of a hole for the next thirty minutes

JackyDanny · 14/04/2014 15:27

I am not an angel by any stretch, nor do I look angelic...

I might follow up with, only Bowie can call me that Wink

True, there are worse names to be called. I think I am a temperamental wotsit and should stay single!

Thank you for the video partialderivative - that went straight to me legs. Blush

BertieBotts · 14/04/2014 16:49

Be careful, if you suspect it's the same name he's used for previous girlfriends/wives then it can indicate that he sees you as interchangeable which is pretty crappy.

BertieBotts · 14/04/2014 16:51

I don't mind pet names but I don't think I'd want a recycled one! :)

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 14/04/2014 16:57

Aw my DH calls me angel, although when doing it via text he writes angle which makes me laugh.

He also calls me princess, babe, gorgeous, beautiful and hunny bunny Grin

Only one i never liked was 'luv' hate anybody calling me love so i nipped that in the bud.

YANBU but probably didn't come across well with that text.

Vintagecakeisstillnice · 14/04/2014 17:01

I have a particular hatred of Angel as a 'pet' name. Friends twatty ex used it all the time. All women were angels until they weren't then they were silly bitches or whores.

I was both Grin

Himself and I have various silly names for each other but they are very much relayed to events or experiences we have had rather than a generic one size fits all.

katmat3 · 14/04/2014 22:58

My ex used to call me sugar and doll and i loved it 'cause i loved him.....sorry.Not much help...

MelonadeAgain · 14/04/2014 23:01

YANBU. Is he trying to be Robin Thicke?!!! Does he put an emphasis on the "e" at the end?

thebody · 14/04/2014 23:03

Ah it sounds sweet. My dh calls me God. Fairly appropriate I feel. ??Grin

Darkesteyes · 14/04/2014 23:11

My ex OM used to call me Angel.
Raven haired beauty was another one he called me.
Sweetheart
and my real pet hate......"babe" But mostly it was Angel.

Would have been nicer to hear my name more often both in bed and out of it.

HillyHolbrook · 14/04/2014 23:46

It might be habitual, DP has always called me 'hun' and I just get on with it because it's his go to pet name Confused I would call him 'babycakes' as an act of revenge, but now this has become habitual so we have this hideous back and forth of vile pet names and everyone thinks we are gross and weird, even us!

My grandad calls me Angel, or worse, 'Ange.' It makes me cringe but he's an old man and very lovely so I let it slide Wink

AntiJamDidi · 14/04/2014 23:50

My dp calls me all sorts of names, but to be fair he never calls me anything I've asked him not to. I would tell him not to call me Angel.

MrsDavidBowie · 14/04/2014 23:51

Much as I love David, I wouldn't like him to call me Angel. Or babe, hun or anything else .

manicinsomniac · 15/04/2014 03:04

Try this response:

In the words of Charlotte Bronte/Jane Eyre after being referred to as an angel (may not be an exact book quote, it's a line from a theatre adaptation I'm learning)

"I am not an angel. I will be myself. Mr Rochester, you must not expect anything celestial of me any more than I shall expect the same of you. We must neither of us be disappointed in the other."

Then watch his jaw drop in confusion!

YANBU by the way, that would set my teeth on edge.

Shockers · 15/04/2014 11:15

S'pose it's more polite than fecker, or twattyfalatty, although DH has only ever called me those names, so at least they aren't recycled.

I'm special Grin.
