To think it's astounding that not so long ago it was the convention to include your marital status, nationality and state of health on your CV?

Just that really. I am currently updating my CV. It has been a while, but not that long really, and the one I have saved on my PC has all that personal info on it. Guidance that is specific to my profession now states that it is not even necessary to state your gender as it is irrelevant. Glad things have moved on, but surprused that it was not that long ago that even I thought it was ok to include all that personal info!

What if somebody discriminated against you because of it ikea? Assumed you wouldn't be committed to the job because you might end up moving back? It is your choice if course and not saying you shouldn't have pride in your nationality.

It is of course illegal, but I think many people do discriminate, even if they don't realise. I suppose the less extraneous info you give them, the less opportunity they have to do that.

I think if I would be discriminated against it would happen anyway at the interview stage. I feel that by saying which nationality I am helps to build a picture of the person that I am.

I live in a country where my name lets people know that I am from an English speaking country, stating my nationality only clarifies which of the English speaking countries I come from.

I would also explain in a covering letter how long I have lived in the country I live in, why I moved here, my language ability and that I am very settled here.

Don't have any of that on my CV. It's hard enough to keep all the important things like qualifications and past jobs to 2 pages without filling up on details like husband and medical history Hmm

I know what you mean mincing, it is quite liberating that my new one has my name, phone number, email, my professional body reg number and that's all. Room for important stuff now!
