deakymom · 11/04/2014 21:30

its driving us mental last year he let the yappy thing bark all day everyday we reported him and it calmed down (although he did write to the paper sniping about people with no life reporting his poor dog for barking and blaming the neighbor's dog)

this year its worse im woke up around 5/6 daily yap yap yap we swapped the kids bedrooms around so we would be woke up instead of them we go into the garden it attacks the fence i BIT a hole in the fence and came into the garden i went out and shooed him out i put a board up (very heavy board) covering the hole i came out the next day it had been moved enough for the yappy thing to get through (it's a small dog BUT YAPPY) i went out again and i could hear them whispering has she seen him yet he is in there again giggling behind the fence Angry so i said if he comes in my fucking garden again i'm handing it in to the vet as a stray

i love dogs but my middle child is terrified of small dogs he can't play in the garden as all we get is yap yap yap the dog is very aggravated by us using our garden there is a large fence separating us but he still knows we are there every time our son goes out every time MY backdoor is open he sends the dog out and he goes NUTS tonight he was barking for FOUR HOURS SOLID my husband snapped opened the window and yelled shut that FUCKING DOG UP its quiet now but i'm worried we are housing association tenants and are not allowed to scream at the neighbours

he owns his home we can do nothing about him except call environmental health again

Can you get your son one of those silent dog repellant alarms? Might make him feel safer going outside. You press it and some noise only dogs can hear will scare them away.

And yes, if it comes into your garden again just hand it in as a stray. Or call the police and get them to move it.

bellasuewow · 11/04/2014 22:48

Gather evidence and look up online getting an injunction the threat of a fine may work. This dog is utterly frustrated probably at being bored out of its mind so they are not treating their pet very well at all do they not walk it and if not could you offer to walk it so it can get some exercise I know that may seem mad but desperate times and all that..

Funnyfoot · 11/04/2014 22:53

Sorry this is happening it must be hell.

Can you install real time CCTV?

This is evidence and will be classed as such if you take this further...again.

Sorry if this is crap advice

Misspixietrix · 11/04/2014 22:59

YNBU one of our Neighbours has just bought some new yappy things that are let out at silly o clock andleft out for hours on end. Endlessly barking. Surely he can still be liable for noise nuisance even if he does own his ow. Home?

Roshbegosh · 11/04/2014 23:03

I didn't find silent alarms worked.

I hope someone can suggest something as this must be awful for you. Some dog owners are so selfish and don't care about other people being made miserable by them.

footballagain · 11/04/2014 23:10

Who's boundary is it? The fence that the dog bit the hole in, that is.

If it's theirs, I'd ask them to repair it. If they won't/don't, I'd be stapling heavy duty chicken wire over it.

I'm afraid the suggestion up thread to call the police is wrong.

If you are HA, I would seek their advice first.

Misspixietrix · 11/04/2014 23:21

Actually OP. Ring 101. Noise nuisance would come under antisocial behaviour surely.

RedFocus · 12/04/2014 07:38

If it comes in to your garden again let it out onto the street then call the dog warden.

Perfectlypurple · 12/04/2014 07:44

Noise is nothing to do with police. Its council environmental health that you need to speak to.

KickassCoalition · 12/04/2014 07:49

Super soaker. Either the dog will hate it and run home wet but unharmed, or he will love it and the owners will have to deal with a wet smelly dog.

Or make a really muddy wet patch near his access point so he gets absolutely filthy and they have to bath him when he gets back home.Smile

Misspixietrix · 12/04/2014 10:36

Noise is nothing to do with Police . Noise at that level is antisocial. A call to 101 will do no harm and if she is in the wrong place they will direct her to someone who could help I'd imagine.

Perfectlypurple · 12/04/2014 11:08

I know it's nothing to do with police because it's my job to know.

I have also had the same problem with a dog barking literally all day and night as it wasn't allowed in the house. I reported it to the environmental health and kept a diary.

Tiredmumno1 · 12/04/2014 11:15

I agree with purple, the police will do absolutely nothing, it is not down to them. Unfortunately it is environmental health you'll need to get back on to OP.

Longtalljosie · 12/04/2014 11:17

Don't worry about the Housing Association. They'll ask what was said - they'll sympathise. Even if it's reported. Which it won't be.

Nicola19 · 12/04/2014 11:33

You need to ring the animal control officer/ dog warden at the council. I had the same problem with a border terrier. I rang them hanging out of the window with the dig yapping incessantly. They wrote a letter to the neighbours telling them to sort it or they would get a fine. They sent a diary to me to log it if it continued but it stopped! Happens v occasionally now. I recorded segments on my phone and counted 15 min sections- he was barking 3000 an hour! Not good for the poor dog or us! He was well looked after but hated it when they went out and would go through his dig flap into the garden yapping.

tallulah · 12/04/2014 11:34

Google Dangerous Dogs Act. It may not be a "dangerous" dog but the actual laws on dogs are very strict (I read it just after we got our dog and was horrified). Allowing the dog to come onto your property is a failure to keep it under control.

Contact Environmental Health (your council should have a dog warden) for advice. It doesn't matter that you are HA and he owns his property; his dog is still not allowed to be a nuisance like this.

Misspixietrix · 12/04/2014 11:40

OP get in touch with your HA and EH too. My BF had something similar with her neighbours non dog related and they gave her the recording equipment etc for evidence of the excessive noise. Keep a diary etc too. As hard as it is don't shout an albeit very justified STFU (I want to many times at the new dogs!). Also what Tallulah said.
