To think the ramp into the dog pond was a fucking stupid place to have a picnic?

Just that really. Went to a local country park today, dh, dd (3) the dog and I.

Big country park, some of which is designated as off lead area for dogs, and has a large pond, clearly signposted as "Dog Pond" with a large wooden ramp going into it so dogs can get out easily.

We arrived at the pond, let the dog off and she bounded straight in, then swam across the pond to get out, which is when I noticed 4 women having a picnic on it. Confused

Predictably the dog got out and shook herself, at which point one of the women started yelling that I should keep my dog on a fucking lead!Shock

I smiled sweetly and called the dog back but really? Is it me or would one of the several designated picnic areas have been a much better choice ?

I hope her fucking sandwiches got wet. Angry

Cati was going to say sounds like shorne. YWNBU I've had parents with their toddlers playing on that ramp. It's clearly signposted. My dog loves that pond don't yell at me when I politely tell you its not asafe place to play!

So, they made a mistake and didn't realise it was a free roaming dog area?

Personally I would have apologised and politely pointed out their mistake. It's not worth beget ting would up and angry about it.

Some people don't have the brains they were born with. .. as my DM would say.

My dog would have been straight in the sandwich bag as well. His recall is spot on 99% of the time, but a picnic would deactivate that part of his brain.

I had similar on a dog beach - our local beach is a couple of miles long, with a teeny bit at one end where dogs are allowed. Dog was having a whale of a time in and out of the sea, minding his own business then this woman came along and demanded we leave as her DD was scared of dogs - didn't matter that it was the dog beach, her DD wanted to be on that particular bit.

Errr....no!

I have never heard of a designated off-lead area or dog pond but I think it sounds like a terrific idea.

You probably should have pointed out to them that they were in this special area so they know to avoid it another time.
