A facebook question, I know how you love them!

A friend's mother has had a major health setback and will be kept in hospital for the foreseeable future. Lots of sincerely meant sympathies given but I notice someone has posted a picture of their, admittedly cute and lovely, baby to 'cheer them up'.

This isn't the first time I've seen this or the only person I've seen do it. Is it only me who thinks 'yes your baby is cute but I don't know why you think someone who has just today received pretty devastating would be one jot cheered up by a picture of your child'?

Am I a cow?

I agree with you - appreciate the sentiment but it is a bit self-absorbed.

I have never seen this but I am pissed off just thinking about it.

thebody · 10/04/2014 16:41

Yes agree very strange.

Maybe if it was a grandchild but otherwise no it's not about their child I agree very rude really.

WilsonFrickett · 10/04/2014 16:43

You need to do a lot of sharing to this

OlympiaFox · 10/04/2014 16:44

yanbu, I don't know whether people like this are just looking for any excuse to brag about the only thing in their lives in a pathetic, desperate bid for attention or whether they really are that deluded.... is it even possible?

Obviously most of us believe the sun shines out of our kids arse and that they're the most fascinating, entertaining little geniuses that ever graced the earth but how on earth can anyone think that other people are equally impressed and enchanted???

parakeet · 10/04/2014 16:46

Er...but my children are the most fascinating entertaining little geniuses that ever graced the earth...

Seriously, YANBU.

DidoTheDodo · 10/04/2014 16:46

I'd rather see a kitten!

AlpacaYourThings · 10/04/2014 16:46

That is very odd, YANBU.

Agree it would be fine if it was you DC or DGC.

I wouldn't be cheered up by a picture of a friends DC.

It also depends on context, I've been in hospital a lot recently as Ive recently discovered my pregnancy is ectopic. A friend sending me a picture of a their child would be like a stab to the heart.

Depends on the relationship between patient and baby.

I work on hospital wards and some patients have pictures of babies and children.
