to think calories should be on alcohol labels

DH and I are on a diet and I have noticed that the number of calories is not listed on wine or beer. Having done a bit of research online I am amazed at how high this can be and how easy it is to consume so many extra calories without realising. Personally I find this more of a deterrent than the recommended units thing and I am amazed that these labels appear on everything but alcohol.
Sorry for being a killjoy so close to the weekend Wine

Some brands are starting to cotton on to this. It's another selling angle if their wine is low-cal. Weightwatchers do their own and Black Tower do a white wine called 'Skinny' - 55 calories a glass advertised loud and clear on the label.

No thank you, ignorance is bliss Grin

I hadn't realised it wasn't on there already. Does that mean that putting calories on things is optional, I'm surprised the high calorie foods tell you if they don't have to.

I would really, really like them to put calories on drinks - not least because I think we might get some decent lower calorie wines and beers as a result.

I don't think it's 'nanny state' to tell people what they are consuming - we can all choose to ignore the labels (and I dare say most of us do when we're having a stressful day and the chocolate machine is blinking away at us).

I would like restaurants to have to provide more info on calories too.

yanbu. I have a reasonable idea of cals in small glass of wine, pint of beer/cider but wouldn't have a clue about some of the more exotic drinks, like amaretto or baileys or cocktails.

YABU. It will take me ages to shop for wine. I'll have to walk round all the aisles lifting all the bottles checking to see which has the least calories.

Shopping for a sandwich and chocolate bar currently takes up all my lunch break. I long for the days of ignorant bliss and no labels to read.

I don't drink now due to meds but when I did I didn't realise how many calories were in alcohol. When I stopped drinking I lost weight straight away - not surprising!
