AIBU to leave negative feedback for an Ebay seller?

Look I know this is hardly a problem, but would appreciate views, particularly from MNers who use ebay. I buy and sell stuff on ebay (not as a business) to keep costs down. For the vast majority of the time, I find people honest and kind. But occasionally there are problems. I've never left negative feedback before. It just seemed a bit petty. But I'm wondering if that's wrong - that particularly if you've had a horrible experience you should say so, in order to prevent another ebayer having similar.

I had a recent transaction where I was purchased something listed as "very good condition" which arrived with holes, a stain and stank. Also, as this was a high-end kids designer, it wasn't cheap. When I contacted the seller and politely asked her to consider a refund as I wasn't happy with the condition. She refused, and then was incredibly rude.

WWYD?

Just an aside, but if you message the seller telling them you may/will leave negative feedback, then that gives the seller grounds to ask ebay for it to be removed, as it's considered feedback extortion.

Even if they do refund it as a result of the dispute definitely give negative feedback, as you had to get e bay to sort it out, she did not of her own volition. I think if you have had a negative experience where you had to use paypal or E bay to shirt out the matter, your entitled to leave negative feedback. Potential buyers have to know there was a problem with the seller.

if they refund straightaway without a quibble you can still leave appropriate feedback ie neutral "not as described but seller fixed situation quickly"

same incident with poor seller response involving raising case etc
negative feedback " not as described took ages to resolve poor service and communication"

you say to seller

" I received item this morning it is not as described ( it is dirty /broken/has holes whatever) I would like to give you chance to put this right before involving dispute centre please let me know asap how you are going to resolve this issue regards teacup"
i would give at least 24-48 hours for a rely no reply and would raise case

though technically an item broken in post is not as described i would not leave negative unless they dragged heels over refunding as probably not their fault and hence not deserving neg

many good sellers will resolve issues without involving ebay and these do not deserve bad feedback

Thanks for more replies. Just to clarify that I've emailed the seller a couple of times politely expressing dissatisfaction and requesting a refund. Have received in response extremely rude emails refusing refund and basically saying I'm a bitch (okay I'm paraphrasing but it was really rude).

You already have contacted her and she refuses to resolve - well she is wrong. She cannot refuse a return. Open the case, return tracked and yes please do neg and leave low stars. She gives other sellers a bad name.

But if you do buy stuff to sell on you are a business. If you are selling own items then you are not.
