To think that Amazon should take a bit of responsibility for something they allow to be sold in their Marketplace?

Sorry, long title, no idea if it will all post!

I need a bathroom towel ring. Wanted it ideally last weekend. Last week I saw the one I wanted (a particular range) for sale on Amazon Marketplace. It was listed as 'In Stock' but I checked the company's direct website as sometimes that is cheaper. It wasn't but I called them to check it was in stock and what other items of the range they had. I then placed the order on Amazon.

Yesterday I got an email from Amazon saying it hadn't been dispatched and to contact the company directly. I did and got no reply so sent another email this morning. I have just had notification from Amazon that the order was cancelled as it was wrongly listed as 'In Stock'. However, it is STILL listed as 'In Stock' online ... And I phoned them. I have tried to look on the Amazon site to complain but apparently you can only raise complaints about orders they fulfil. They obviously don't care what service you are getting from their Marketplace providers.

Sorry, not sure what I want from this. It just feels good to rant!

It's a towel ring, honestly not worth getting het up about. Let it go.

DoJo · 08/04/2014 12:11

I know it's annoying, but it sounds like a relatively simple mistake and one which could happen to any company which has humans inputting data onto their systems.

Is it still listed as 'In stock' on Amazon or on the company's own website?

Canus · 08/04/2014 12:14

We'll the whole idea of Marketplace is that it is one step removed from Amazon.

You still get a money back guarantee and compensation for missing deliveries etc. so I think it's a pretty good thing really.

You have encountered a rubbish company, but not lost anything.

Amazon is hugely popular in this house, we've never had a problem that wasn't instantly resolved.

I just remembered I checked stock online of a fairly local wool shop and then drove 20 minutes to shop to buy item and it wasn't in stock! That was irritating. They offered to order the item for me, but I later found it at Hobbycraft so emailed them to let them know and had no reply! Another local shop offered to order something for me and said it would be 10 days. I went in after ten days and she said it hadn't arrived and to check back in another 10 days. I thought she obviously hadn't ordered it and she wasn't going to bother so ordered online. The shop then rang me two months later to say they had the item!

Thanks all. Yes, it is just a towel ring and I am bu as it doesn't matter.

Thanks for putting it in perspective! (Told you I just needed a rant)

Ok, moving on with my life now Grin

Possibly their systems havent updated yet so thats why they may still be showing as having stock

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 08/04/2014 15:36

Yes, Amazon should take responsibility for their marketplace sellers, as they are trading on Amazon's good name and a lot of people won't realise that the item is not coming from Amazon.

I find it really annoying that almost everything on Amazon marketplace of the phone charger/memory card/battery charger variety is cheap chinese knock off even if the listing says that the item is genuine. It makes it impossible to buy the genuine item if that's what you want.

Had same thing with a lamp. Supposedly went missing in post. Saw it was out of stock on Amazon and on their website. Yet the guy said he'd send me a replacement. That also went missing. I don't think that he had the replacement one let alone the first one.

You get it sorted in the end but it's a pain, isn't it?

Thanks all. I just thought I would check back to see if I had any other replies.

I think what I was most angry about was that I knew it wasn't from Amazon but assumed that if I had any problems they would at least care (or apologise!) I am guessing Amazon get paid to promote these sites so should at least be accountable :(

Ahhh thankyou

GiveItALashJack · 08/04/2014 22:44

But amazon do care. They have a policy. You need to wait till the est due date of the order. Then contact the seller. If they do not respond, or respond and tell you jog on, m amazon cover you undrr their a to z guarantee!

No loss to you!

I was sold a toy recently from a market place. It arrived grubby and filthy even though it was meant to be new. I complained to the seller and they refunded. They were very grovelling and very keen that I didn't leave bad feedback so I reckon Amazon do moderate them somehow. Maybe threaten this

pinkr · 10/04/2014 05:37

a market seller on Amazon obviously

elahrairahforprimeminister · 10/04/2014 08:23

Amazon Marketplace is crap.

Easy way for sellers to rip off buyers.

I purchased a garden hammock swing chair thing which was utterly faulty (in about 4 places) and completely unfit for purpose.

Getting replacement parts and then eventually a refund was such hassle.

Through eBay you have Paypal protection. With Amazon Marketplace you've got nothing.

I'd avoid it. Either use the actual Amazon stuff (not Marketplace) or use eBay.

Likewise should we hold mumsnet responsible for dull posts?
