Am I a bad mother?

Every year I buy my dc Easter eggs well in advance when on special offer. Weeks and weeks in advance. Then I eat them, all of them! I have to replace them when they are not on special offer.

Sometimes I have to replace them twice!

Does this make me a bad mother?

annebullin · 07/04/2014 20:43

YABU because now I want the cream egg Easter egg in the cupboard dammit

PrincessScrumpy · 07/04/2014 20:46

Dc get so many I "help" them to eat their eggs... yes I'm a very bad mummy. Oooops ;)

Marylou62 · 07/04/2014 20:47

Punta...you are so right!!! My DH works in a supermarket...Know when they put the eggs out? Boxing Day!!!! My DS got an egg for his first Easter when he was only 8 mths...I ate it and DH has never let me forget it!!

picnicbasketcase · 07/04/2014 20:47

I do that every Christmas with the big sticking filler tubes of sweets. The Munchies ones are just too tempting. I shouldn't buy them til at least the 23rd.

WorraLiberty · 07/04/2014 20:48

I think it just makes you a bit odd.

You're a grown woman. If you want to buy yourself chocolate eggs, then buy them and eat them.

I don't know where or why your kids come into this.

Unless perhaps actually buying them for yourself makes you feel odd or guilty in some way, so you pretend they're for the kids?

Marylou62 · 07/04/2014 20:52

Lots of you are asking why it tastes so nice...didn't you know that stolen chocolate tastes so much better!

tulipsaredelicious · 07/04/2014 20:52

I'm afraid I'm going to have to report you, OP. It's for your own good and the safety of your children's chocolate.

Stinklebell · 07/04/2014 20:52

I bought some last week when they were BOGOF in the local co-op and we've eaten them

I even allowed for extras for DH and I to scoff in the run up.

LingDiLong · 07/04/2014 20:57

I buy all mine last minute to avoid this kind of situation - learned the hard way with selection boxes.

It's surely not that odd Worra? You don't buy yourself any because you don't want any at that moment/want to try and be healthy but as time goes on you become more and more aware of the chocolate eggs you've put in the cupboard. It's raining and cold and they're just there in the kitchen. And other people's food ALWAYS tastes better.

WorraLiberty · 07/04/2014 21:00

No I don't agree that other people's food always tastes better

If I want chocolate I buy chocolate for myself and eat it

I suppose in the situation you describe, if I really wanted one of the Easter eggs then yes, I might have one.

But the OP describes eating all of them and having to sometimes replace them twice.

Too me personally, that's a bit odd.

puntasticusername · 07/04/2014 21:01

Boxing Day! See! Exactly! What chance do we stand?!

Our eggs are in the garage. I'm going to exercise some VERY serious self-restraint right now and attempt to deny my memory of the knowledge of where the key is for the garage.

One year when dh was just a little boy (about 7-8) his dad ate the back of his chocolate Santa (quite a large one to be fair), apparently you couldn't tell from the front so dh only found out when he opened up his chocolate Santa to eat it on Christmas Day. It's still a running joke every time his dad buys us or dd chocolate, we always say we best check the back to see if it's all there. Grin

Catsize · 07/04/2014 22:19

I still have my Easter eggs from last year. Does this make me a very very good mother?

RedFocus · 08/04/2014 08:16

OMG seriously? You've got to be kidding surely.
There are 9 Easter eggs in my kitchen that belong to my dc's and the last thing on my mind would be to eat them as they belong to my dc's.
What a waste of money too. Don't bother buying them early or give them to someone else to hold onto in the future. I wouldn't leave it too late to buy them though as dh forgot to get his kids any last year and he couldn't get any for love nor money around here.

SapphireMoon · 08/04/2014 08:19

Sometimes chocolate has to be eaten.
Don't stress op.

sezamcgregor · 08/04/2014 09:13

If you are - I am!!

I know that I'll eat them, and so no longer buy them. At all. The only ones that I don't eat a month before Easter are for friends' children who I then don't see until a month after Easter and it's all a bit silly.

Buying a large bar on offer at £1 is better value ;-)
