I have no idea if I'm being stupid and there's no possible way it could be a fracture or something as hes never had a bump before.
He's 3 1/2 and last weekend jumped up to give his dad a hug and went straight into his chin with the top left side of his head ( within the hair not the forehead )
Husband screamed in pain, son laughed and we went off to a theme park for the day.
Next mining while washing his hair I noticed a rock hard lump on his head, about the size of 50p.
It's definately going down, slowly but surely and is now the size of a 20p.
What concerns me is it feels rock hard, like bone but everywhere I've read a fracture would feel like a soft dent?
He says it doesn't hurt ( am poking it constantly ) and it is going down but we are now day 9 and it's still there.
Is this normal or warrants a doctors call?
Feel slighty silly as hea his normal self bouncing around, telling me I'm annoying him everytime i press it so I can't imagine a doctor sending him off for an x ray or anything

At my children's doctors' surgery, I always get reassured that it's ok to take my children in if I'm worried and that they wouldn't think it a waste of time. If you're still worried get him checked. It's probably nothing, but it'll put your mind at rest. I would do that personally.

Pop into a chemist and ask to speak to a pharmacist ?? Theyre usually pretty good.

Martorana · 07/04/2014 09:36

Charlotte- I am as sure as I can be that this is just a bump- but you are obviously really worried, or you wouldn't have started two threads about it. Why not just take him along to OOH if you have one, or to A&E?

You'll only fret and won't be able to enjoy the holidays if you don't. It's horrible to have a nagging worry like that.

(Maybe they could look at your poor dh's jaw at the same time?)Grin

Just realized it's Monday not Sunday- no need for OOH!

Haven't I read this before? I'm sure there was a thread where everyone told the OP that it was just a bump and not to panic. If it was something sinister, I'm sure you would have noticed other symptoms than just a bump on the head.
Injuries to the head do come up as a large bump as it's all the fluid surrounding the initial site to ensure it isn't further damaged. They do take a long time to reduce to nothing.
However, since you're clearly worried, I would recommend going to the pharmacy and ask for their advice. I always use the pharmacy before the GP as it isn't wasting a valuable appointment that may not be necessary.
I hope you and your DS feel better! Smile

This is my second thread, I only received one reply to my last one a few days ago.
I never thought of a pharmacist but that sounds like a good idea, what about arnica?
I've heard this is good for bumps or an old wives tale?

Really? Only one reply? Maybe I dreamt it (that sometimes happens!!) Grin
I have no idea about arnica, I have never put anything on a bump. Definitely go to the pharmacy, they're better than NHS direct as they can actually see what you're worried about rather than someone on the phone whose advice is normally "go to a&e". They should tell you if you should go to the GP or, if not, what creams you can put on it. Tell them your concerns. Hope you get this sorted.

Thankyou :)
Yeah one reply just saying they can take a while to go down
I just assumed a week tops as it wasn't a hard bang, well obviously hard enough that left a bump but I just didn't think it would last this long.
Will go to the pharmacy, thanks
