To think it's grim to try a shop's shoes on a soiled child?

In a high street shoe shop today which does fittings. Child - must have been around 2 - wet themselves whilst sitting down having shoes fitted. Mother noticed when the child stood up. Wouldn't the natural reaction be to get out sharpish to clean the child up? No apparently the correct course of action is to continue to try on more shoes you have not yet decided on or paid for. I couldn't help but think of the wee running down the child's leg and into the shoes....ew! Thankfully they bought the shoes but seriously? Is this acceptable? AIBU?

I think you know the answer

ChelworthBrond · 06/04/2014 21:58

Ewww! Totally rank. I hope she made sure the seat was clean or told a member of staff. How lovely for the next child to sit there!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 06/04/2014 21:59

Aren't 2 year olds still in nappies?

ilovepowerhoop · 06/04/2014 22:03

ds was in pants at age 2 so it is not unheard of for a 2 year old to be potty trained

namechange34 · 06/04/2014 22:03

She told the staff member what had happened and the staff member still fitted the shoes though Confused. I felt like I was in a parallel universe which is why I wanted to put it out to mumsnet! Oh and don't worry she wiped the seat down with a baby wipe

Dd was potty trained at 2.3.

namechange34 · 06/04/2014 22:06

By a 2 year old I mean under 3 years old not necessarily just turned 2! Most of DDs peers were potty trained by 2.5

These things happen. Get a grip.

AuditAngel · 06/04/2014 22:13

My 3DC were all in pants while 2, being 2.7, 2.4 and 2.5.

But no, I would have left, not let them try on shoes while soggy

ilovepowerhoop · 06/04/2014 22:13

but its gross if she peed and then continued trying on shoes that other children will try on too.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/04/2014 22:19

What if she hadn't bought the shoes, WhoAteAllTheCremeEggs? Should he shop put them back on the racks, to be sold to another unsuspecting customer, who'd end up with wee- soaked shoes? Or should they throw them away?

Would you be happy buying wee soaked shoes, all unsuspecting?

WhoAteAllTheCremeEggs · 06/04/2014 22:38

Wee soaked? My kid must be different from yours he doesn't wee out of hes feet, its not the certainty you have decided it is that the wee would soak though lower clothing all the way down to feet.
I'm sure if the child's socks where wet the assistant wouldn't carry on with the fitting.
Far more likely to gush that way if child is undressed like first potty training days but i'm sure people don't take their children into clarks like that.
I think I would notice in the shop if the shoes were 'wee soaked' but really is the shop employee going to let that happen to their stock?
Shoppings boring for a 2 year old dont make the mum drag it out longer.
