Hello all

I've been a SAHM to my DS for the last two years. DH works ft low wage less than 16k

Anyways thursday i had an interview for a post in a school tbh i didnt think i had a cat in hells chance due to lack of experience qualifications etc so you can imagine my shock when they rang that afternoon to offer me the job!!

So here's my problem, we currently get wtc, part hb, cb, but with rent of £1000pm (london) and childcare looking to be about £200pw how do i pay the first month or so's childcare until tax credits get updated.

Everywhere ive looked online states that i cant update until the day i start work

Does anyone have any ideas on what i could do im getting really down about this, both my mum and pils work ft so cant have DS

I would take out a small loan tbh if no savings. But also get dh to take as many weeks holiday as possible.

So if he can take two weeks holiday then you might only need 2 weeks paid childcare on top before its sorted out

Could you also call in favours from friends a few days? I'm assuming its part time if childcare is only £200 a week? Say they have him x2 Mondays 9-3pm or whatever and in exchange you offer x3 free nights babysitting or you will look after there's 9-3pm a few Saturdays. It's only a few times as you mention

Have you spoken to your child are provider about this yet?

My childminder allowed us to pay at the end of the first month rather than up front when I returned to work as she is aware that tax credits take time to sort out.

I know this will vary childminder to childminder and nurseries may be different again, but it is worth asking as I imagine a lot of people find themselves in the same situation.

Favours from friends, your DH use up annual leave, speak to local CM's ask if you can give them a deposit and pay in full when your tax credits kick in?

Congratulations on your new job.

Personally I'd explain the situation to your bank and ask them to extend an overdraft limit for a couple of months. I've had issues in the past where I've swapped jobs and needed leeway due to changes in pay day.

Congratulations on your job.

Overdraft or loan?

Purplepoodle · 06/04/2014 19:47

You can claim up to 7 days before childcare starts. You usually get a one off payment quite quickly into your account. If you have good credit use a balance transfer credit card, transfer the balance into your current account.
