To think that we can sometimes 'forget' the person behind the SN?

Was just thinking about this and have to admit that so often I am guilty of describing ds2 in terms of his disability, rather than who he is as a person?

Even when I'm buy presents and things for him, a lot of the time I think 'what would be suitable for him' rather than 'what would he like?'

It was making me feel sad so I decided that, for this thread, I will talk about ds2. About him, about who he is, what he likes, what makes him happy :) Not about his issues, not about the nature of his condition, not about what he can and can't do but about him:

He loves to sing and is really good at remembering lyrics of songs, his timing and tuning are great for a 6yr old,
His favourite is Katy Perry,
He likes to wrestle with his brother,
He loves cheese and potato but is not a fan of meat,
He loves any kind of vehicle (both toy and real :D),
His favourite movie is Cars,
He loves being tickled and has a wicked laugh,
His favourite colour is red,
He loves swimming, bathing and just water in general,
He is a really sunny, bubbly sort of child, naturally likeable and everyone who meets him seems to genuinely get attached to him :)

Aibu to think that there are others who also do this? Not on purpose obviously but much of the time their condition takes over your lives so much that you kind of 'forget' about the person underneath it?

Tell me about your DC's!

Thanks for telling us about your son :)

Perpendicular my ds also loves houmous! Which is weird because he hates anything 'squishy' and liquidy, yogurt and houmous the only exception to the rule, spicy houmous even better! He gets quite upset if you stop him from eating an entire tub with his bare hands :D

lovely post extremepie. Your ds sounds adorable. I agree, I do the same with 2 of my dc's. My ds2 is just lovely, he eats all day long and loves a chat! DD3 is totally crazy and just the best company, she is also a great singer! x

how lovely Grin

I totally get your post

My eldest daughter is funny, she sings like a slightly off key angel, she can do the 'cup song' brilliantly, she is beautiful and great at putting clothes together. She is a very skilled horse rider and swimmer and writes the most amazing stories and poems. I love her dearly

My middle child is an incredible footballer, she plays with both feet and in any position, she is compassionate, and kind and hysterically funny. She is a great friend and a lovely daughter and she is very good at saving her money and planning what to spend it on - I love her with all my heart

My youngest is a little monkey who can wrap us all around her finger. She is an amazing cuddler and sings great made up songs. She can play for hours with her dolls - the most amazing imagination she has. Her rising trot is brilliant for a 5 year old and she is so bright and loves reading

2 of my 3 children have SN

My (adult) DCousin learned to do loud wolf whistles as a tot. He's a massive fan of Eddie Stobart lorries and fast cars. He works as a trolley assistant at a local supermarket, and has done for some years. Someone wrote in to his work recently to praise his work. The older he gets, the more he looks like his dad.

Where do I start with dd 7

She is the most loveable, beautiful and gentle little girl ever.
She is very bright, and loves learning about different countries. She loves art and draft and drawing and can get so absorbed in creating wonderful art. Her reading is getting so much better and she has a very inquisitive mind and asks lots of questions.

She is nit keen on eating accept MacDonalds, and beans on toast with sausages in. She loves a calm environment with not too much stimulation so is not keen on soft play places

My dd is Autistic
