To insist on a glass of water from the kitchen?

I don't want bathroom water but DH insists it is exactly the same. It's a long running disagreement, can you resolve it for us.

He knows I am posting. If consensus is that I am indeed being unreasonable I will drink the bathroom water. if on the other hand I win, he will go down to the other wing of the big spooky holiday house we are sharing with friends to get me some fresh kitchen water.

YANBU to want kitchen water, your DH is BU.

Blithereens · 05/04/2014 23:09

I prefer bathroom water but I agree they don't taste the same. YANBU!

ilovepowerhoop · 05/04/2014 23:09

it depends if you have a cold water tank in the loft or not although we drink the bathroom water here despite the tank and have all survived. The kitchen tap tends to be directly connected to the mains.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 05/04/2014 23:10

YANBU

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2014 23:10

I wouldn't drink bathroom water in our house because it comes from the water tank in the attic which could have goodness knows what in it.

Kitchen water comes directly from the mains so in our house we only drink that.

I think YANBU to insist on water from the kitchen, but YABU to expect your DH to get it for you - is there a reason why you can't go yourself?

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 05/04/2014 23:11

Depends on your set up, in our house all cold water taps are from mains ( no cold water tank)

Yabu to be so fussy Wink

Coffeeinthepark · 05/04/2014 23:13

Breastfeeding. Pretty sure that's reason enough to send him as pretty much stuck in the bed just now

Does your bathroom water come direct from the main or from a header tank in the loft?

Ours comes from the main, so I ( and the rest of the family) drink it from the bathroom.

However...when I was a kid our water came via a header tank. We use to drink it, brush our teeth etc from that water but it all came to a sudden halt when my DF found a dead and jellyfied BAT in the tank Envy!

Mmmm....I expect it depends upon the provenance of your water!

Needadvice5 · 05/04/2014 23:13

I definitely would not drink bathroom water despite my dp telling me that it's the same! No way, it's vile

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2014 23:13

Yes, that's a good enough reason. Send DH to the kitchen Grin

Bunbaker · 05/04/2014 23:14

Like everyone says, it depends on whether you have a cold water tank. All of our cold water is direct from the mains so you can get a glass of water from the kitchen, bathrooms and downstairs loo, and it will be perfectly safe to drink.

traininthedistance · 05/04/2014 23:14

YANBU!

6cats3gingerkittens · 05/04/2014 23:15

Have never quite understood the thing about not drinking bathroom water, Don't you clean your teeth with it?

Normalisavariantofcrazy · 05/04/2014 23:15

Id drink it here because we don't have a water tank. If it's cold water off a tank stay away from it

onlyfortonight · 05/04/2014 23:15

And if you are breastfeeding I would expect your DH to not just bring you kitchen water, but a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits!

YANBU!

RedPony · 05/04/2014 23:16

yanbu my DP does this too! I have suddenly developed a craving for ice in my drinks so now he has to go downstairs to make one when I'm in bed Grin

MostWicked · 05/04/2014 23:17

It depends. If you have a cold water tank that feeds the bathroom tap, then it is perfectly reasonable to refuse.
However, if both taps are fed from the mains (which is more common), then you are being ridiculous.

guineapig2014 · 05/04/2014 23:17

YANBU I prefer kitchen water. Bathroom water comes from the mains in our house so is fine to drink but we all don't like the taste of it.

90sthrowback · 05/04/2014 23:18

Most new houses have all cold water taps from the mains feed so the bathroom is the same as the kitchen.

Its the hot water that you need to worry about as it tank fed.

There are some houses that still have a cold water tank though but it is not the norm

^^ is according to plumber DH

pepperrabbit · 05/04/2014 23:18

We had this argument until we had the house re-plumbed. Now all water in all rooms comes straight from the mains so we drink from anywhere. Previously we had a skanky tank in the loft and only DH drank it from the bathroom.
Having said that, I refuse to let the DCs drink from the outside tap even though I know it's the same as the kitchen sink water, a foot on the other side of the wall Smile
YANBU. Tell your DH to get a move on Grin

Sandthorn · 05/04/2014 23:18

If it's from a header tank, it's pretty much 100% dead-rat-juice! but if your husband doesn't mind that, I think you'll have to get your own water.

slithytove · 05/04/2014 23:18

YANBU, tell him to get his butt downstairs.

Plus, not keeping fluids up when bf can affect milk... Does he want that on his conscience? He is effectively doing his bit to feed DC by getting you drinkable water ;)

Might be worth taking a bottle to bed tm though!

Jolleigh · 05/04/2014 23:18

Eurgh...if you don't know for certain that the set up where you are gets all water from the mains then I'd say the jellified bat has spoken.

ICanSeeTheSun · 05/04/2014 23:20

I can't mentally drink water from the bathroom tap, even if it is from the mains. To me if feels wrong to drink water from the same place you urinate and empty the bowels.

I brush my teeth in the kitchen as I don't keep toothbrushes in the bathroom.
