What is the point of a kid having a paper round if mummy drives him round in her 4x4 delivering the papers?

I know I'm judging, but I find it odd, very odd.

The type of car being relevant ?

Perhaps he's late this morning and they are going away and so shes helping so they can make it to the coat/train/airport?

I know it isn't relevant, but it builds the picture . Not a one off, every day.

Was it white with personalised no? 5U51?

Presumably the kid is actually walking up and down peoples drives with the papers and the mum is waiting in the car with a big stack?

No she doesn't get out the car, the boy walks up the path with the papers.

I'd go and jab my finger in the recipients face and say WAKE UP AND READ IT ONLINE

She still may have to push him to do this so it it still achieving something

A stack of papers is quite heavy to lift. Especially weekend or local papers with load of sections in them

Seems a bit stupid. When I did a paper round (350 papers!) my dad would sometimes bring the papers too me in the car so I didn't have to walk back home everytime the bag got emptied. But this kid will probably be one of the ones getting his mum to ring work when he feels sick or when he wants a payrise.

The paper girl around here has a trolley in which to drag her papers. They don't have to carry them in bags any more.

Someone in DH's family used to do this with his children. He insisted that it was important for them to have a job as teenagers as it taught them about responsibility etc.....

Dh and I occasionally drive ds3 round his paper round (and used to do the same for the older two, before they went to university) - but this is only if it is too wet and windy, or too icy for him to be safe. There are other paper boys working out of the same shop whose parents do drive them round every day, though.

I think it is good for kids to have a paper round - it teaches responsibility, and enables them to earn their own money, but I wouldn't do it if it meant driving them every day - mine do theirs on their bikes, and it's safe for them to do so round here. If it wasn't safe, or the round was too far from the shop and home, and needed me or dh to drive, I wouldn't go that far to enable him to do the round. It would make no sense for me, to spend more on petrol than he'd be earning from the paper round.

Very tough mother here. All three DC have had/have paper rounds. The only time I've driven them is if it's the weekend and rubbish weather and we have an appointment.

my sister does her daughter's paper round for her!

DH occasionally does Ds's with him...
